Advice Needed
G'Day,
As I've posted earlier, I'll be heading down to Canberra for a few days between Christmas and NYE. Anyways, the boss and I will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary while we're down there and I'm on the lookout for some good restaurants but nothing too over the top... I'm not made of money (I wish I was though). Preferably close to the highway to Sydney (we're staying at Eagle Hawk Hill our room number is... BUGGER OFF! ). Cheers Shadow

I might be able to help you out in Canberra. I deliver to a few chinese resturants as well as working at one. Only problem is, i have no idea where you guys are going/are.

We are always happy to help Shads!
There are a ton of places putting on a special feed for that time of year, but you will need to book. Not sure what we are doing ourselves yet. Places not far from where you are staying... mm, I would say Dickson. The Turkish place there is FANTASTIC. There is also a Zefferelli's and Beluci's. If you are happy to drive and not drink then you could venture further into town, but if you are planning to do it on NYE, then avoid the city! It is usually jampacked due to fireworks. There is the restaurant at the Telstra Tower, but that is muchos muchso expensive! Depends on what type of food you want to eat. But I can assure you that Turkoz is one of the best. Best of luck, and I am really excited for you about the ring thing... |

G'Day,
Mizda_Mazda, we'll be at Rydges Eagle Hawk Hill which is actually in NSW (just!). On the federal highway I think it is. Chinese, Italian or Turkish sounds the go. I knew about the Telstra Tower place, but I also remeber every time we go there, look at the menu and go..." Hmmm, mabey not"! So it looks like Dickson it is! The ring thing is going to have to wait till I get some money... what I want is NOT going to be cheap!

I never understood why anyone would want to waste lots of money on a ring.

Yeah, I know... A mate of mine got engaged recently and the ring was a 50c plastic jobbie from the markets! He said he's going to get a "proper" ring, but I doubt it. Besides, the actual date won't be for a while... she wants to finish uni first.

Yeh, i think i know the place your talking about.
I think Dickson is the best place, maybe down to the city(less than 5min drive from dickson). Don't go japanese, cos they are all chinese. Only chinese place in dickson i can recommend is Ruby's. Beluci's(??spellin??) is good, i love the tornados steak. I think there is a turkish place in the corner and a Thai place called two sisters that my friend keeps nagging me about. If you really want i can snag a takeaway menu from places, scan them and email them to you.

This can be a good place to look for ideas
http://www.citysearch.com.au/ As for the ring, don't buy her a CZ, honestly... Love has nothing to do with money, nor does it have to do with the size of the diamond, but about the feelings you both have. Buying a Cubic Zirconia and not telling her will come back and bite ya in the bum later, especially if she goes to have it valued. A girl deserves a bit of bling! Buy her something special to show her you think she is special. Look forward to catching up with you Shads |

Oh, I forgot to add this link:
http://www.bestrestaurants.com.au/home.asp It's where I selected the restaurant for Aaron and I's first anniversary dinner! The limo ride was fantastic, the food was schmick (but expensive) at the BoatHouse Restaurant <-- highly recommend it though! |

Well, I've made up my mind. 28-point (I think it was... can't be sure now. Was over a week ago I looked at it) diamond, 18 ct yellow. It's rather expensive, but just within my price range... just! It's also got a lot of small diamonds leading up to the big one, but I'm going to see if I can get the ring made with emeralds instead (it's custom manufacturerd). Sweet as! Now, for the hard part... getting the $$$ to pay for it.
Still making up my mind about which restaurant to go to... Oooh, some news for Kitty, my sister Sarah may be down around this time too with her new boyfriend from Italy. he works at the same resort she does just south of Florence.

I can't remember how much it cost, but for a nice romantic dinner, I'd recommend the Green Herring. I've been there a few times and it's been a fantastic, cosy little place every time. It's a little further than dickson and the city, but worth the effort imo.

I spent a pretty penny on an engagement ring, but we both went looking for it after I proposed, as I knew she wanted to find it herself. We were supposed to be getting a white gold/sapphire but she loved a gold one with a big diamond and little ones. I've only recently got milage out of that ring by saying, I want to get some toys seeing as I spent so much on you....lol....we had our 4 yr anniversary last week (5 yrs 2 days later).
We went to Canberra for a few days last yr...and found its very odd in terms of restaurants...they are all mostly in one little pocket..and the centre itself seems to have little cafes. |

Yeh, Canberra is a pretty small place. I wouldn't think there are many classy resturants here. I find civic is overpriced and full of cafes as woofy said.
