Ford Laser GLXi 2002 [NZ new]

Just wondering if anyone on this forum can suggest what is the cause of intermittent rough idle with this vehicle [idle speed drops from 750 rpm to 650/600 rpm] and appears on the verge of stalling - has just been serviced and has new plugs fitted.

Common problem with many causes
1. plugs and leads.Sounds like you have checked that!
2. Air intake pipe . Check for cracks and splits minor splits will cause rough
idle ,major one and the car will miss or not run.
3. Vacuum leak in the pipes or throttle body. If you idle the car and hit the
brakes hard ,and it almost stalls, this is the most likely cause.
4. Dirty or faulty MAF sensor (should be cleaned at service)If you clean it .Dont touch the wire sensor it's
very fragile. buy the spray can cleaner from auto store. (I use a spray
bottle with metho myself)
5. Idle needs resetting If you are very lucky!. You have to bridge a couple of
pins in the diagnostic port first then set the manual screw on the throttle
body

6. stuck IAC valve clean or replace. still looking for the link.
7. almost forgot the idle compensate for the aircon .Does it do it with or without the aircon on? or both.? if its
only with aircon on that will be the problem if problem not as bad with the aircon on then its fine.

spray bottle with water is real handy for finding vacuum leaks spray the
area and listen for idle changes.

2 basic things to check :

Spark plug gap (don't laugh)
Too many "A" grade mechanics just wack em in outa the box

And that the leads are actually "clipped" pushed on !!

does it do in on and off at idle?

does it do it when slow down at a set of traffic lights?
