TWM short shifter installed
I bought a TWM SS in the OMC group buy about a month ago and i thought you guys might like to see some pics of how it turned out.
It wasn't too hard to install, ~2 hours. Probably even less if your used to being under the car. I wasn't, felt pretty claustrophobic under there, my car is a lot lower than i realised I took some before and after photos from the same angles using the stock gear knob Before photo from behind After photo from behind, you can see its about 50% shorter Before profile shot After profile shot And heres a length comparison of the stock shifter next to the TWM short shifter. I lined them up at the pivot point. The TWM is the top one you can view the rest of the photos i took on the day here http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...0installation/ |

It takes a lot more force than I expected to change gears now especially 1st to second. So i can't really slam through the gears like I was expecting. It took a lot of getting used to and I didnt really like it at first but I am enjoying driving a lot more now with it in. The bushings also give it a nice solid feel and I'm glad i bought those I guess the part that kind of sours the deal for me is the leather boot and shift knob i bought as a package. The boot is very plain and not really the high quality product I expected. It might just be me but it looks and feels kind of plasticy. As for the gear knob, yeh its heavy but it doesn't fit comfortably in the hand. I'm not convinced that the extra wieght helps make the shifting easier. It looks ok, but there are better knobs out there for the same price or less. Even with the 10% discount that i got from the group buy i don't think the knob and leather boot were worth it so for the SS alond i'd give it an overall satisfaction rating of 7.5/10 The boot and knob would get 3/10 |

Some ppl have changed tranny oil (redline mt90) to help make shifting a lot smoothing. |

My one does have the TWM logo on it but i didn't realise at the time that it was facing downwards How long ago was the AGT group buy? It's quite possible they changed their design. About 15 other people bought TWM SS's in the group buy with me, mostly for mazda 3's, and the organiser got a free t-shirt :P. No complaints so far. |

Last lot i saw ordered from them had changed, I thought they had metal bushings in them now, unless they went back to the old sort.

Argh, I'd go Kartboy over TWM again if I had to. The Kartboy is the lowest, but it doesn't have the shortest throw, however it is more sympathetic to your gearbox at the same time...
I'm actually quite happy with my shortened stock shifter, it sits around the same or a bit lower than a TWM, and the throw is somewhat the same as a Kartboy shifter. Twilight drove my car and adapted to the shortened stock shifter quite easily, but he complained about Lordworm's stock shifter. When I drove Twilight's car the only thing I had to deal with was the TIGHT shift gate, but in general it wasn't so much different to mine that I was ever going to wrong-slot a gear change... Gav. I installed mine today....man what a difference it makes...and yeah the shifts do requirea slight bit more force than before...but I am quickly getting used to that....it's completely amazing to say for sure
