Fixing it is a bit of a pain in the arse (to get to anyway), you need to take out the centre console (only 6 screws) to access the handbrake position sensor. When you see it you'll understand how easy it is to adjust, you just need a little more clearance so the sensor isn't pulling on the wire, so just wind out the screw somewhat until it gives the response you want on the instrument cluster.

Actually I was just thinking IF you are really lucky you might be able to access it by removing the surround around the handbrake lever, but I'm not sure you'll be able to get your hands in or see well enough to reach the sensor?

I've started having hand brake light problems too, but only when i'm flogging it around couners, the light comes on when i'm half way around the couner and stays on for a bit afterwards, but it only started after I hit that side rail and i didn't even touch my handbrake when i hit the rail.

yes very easy, just an electical contact on a spring. It can be adjusted with a screwdriver.

I had one of my stereo wires ( going to the boot ) get caught on it once.

I'd put money on that your brake fluid is low. Check your reservoir under then bonnet and top it up and I bet your problem disappears. That's the same for you Tublade.

Things to keep in mind are, check your brake pads as they might be getting low and also check for any leaks because your fluid should not be dropping unless your pads are low.

Anton, what was the problem? Was it the handbrake position sensor? If so, were you just able to reach it by removing the handbrake surround, or did you have to remove the whole console?
Dwayne, you probably have too much slack in your handbrake cable, and the position sensor can effectively rattle against a metal surface to create enough contact to trigure the handbrake light to come on...

yeh I just adjusted the position sensor. Had to take out the whole console to get at the screw as it was imposible to get at by just removing the handbrake cover sourounding.
