Installing a alarm/imobiliser

ok so i have a few problems. my current alarm system in the car is falling apart, one remote is completly dead and the bateries in the other one keep getting displaced, forcing me to constantly have to open the remote up..
so i decided to get a new alarm/imobiliser, i found one on ebay that has a few extra functions that i can hook up my self, but i dont know what to do..
i mean i want to just rip this one out and put the new one in, but i was thinking, since this one is already hooked up i could just splice the wires and go from there but i dont have the diagram for the old equator than noone ever heard off..
so i called a few auto electricians that do instalations and i got quoted aroun $500 for just the bloddy instal of a alarm, with imobiliser, and all the hardest wires (for central locking to the door) are already there...
what should i do, should i do it myself?

I would like an alarm in my car too. I have a central locking system installed and an immobiliser but the buttons don't work. They did... just when I got the car as the batteries were going. I got a new battery and it doesn't work at all anymore!

I asked about getting a new one but didn't realise how much work it is. I would like an alarm installed because it would beneficial because of the area I work in, but that's still an idea.

Strange thing about my car is that the immobiliser will kick in when it feels like it and you push the button and it will turn it off so you can start the car, but the buttons won't unlock the doors?! Strange...

I think you should go professionally as I wouldn't risk the issues messing with it yourself, but they you're male and you guys can do that sort of stuff hehe...

I wasn't being sexist, just saying that I wouldn't know the first place to start whereas most males would.. although some females would too but not me. I'm lucky that I know where my oil and water goes

thats mainly cus dealers buy their cars from ppl and then sell them for a profit, buying from other ppl cuts the dealer out and all their profit is in ur pocket..

You dont need the wiring diagram of the old system can work it out using a wiring diagram of the car . Make sure the alarm you get works the central locking as well so you dont have to connect 2 units. Buy a car off a dealer you get a warranty -- private sale you dont more of a risk for people who dont know what to look for

and i have their contact details somewhere in ebay, i just cant find it (yes i got the car of ebay haha)
beside the point if the car was bought of a dealer, who bought it of a person who installed the alarm then the dealer will not help you either

i dont have a wiring diagram maztech, but il figure it out when the time comes hopefully haha
