BA '95 - automatic - idle surging/pulsing

Just want to share some experience from sorting out my idle issue over the last few days
Some history of the car............
Bought the car six month ago knowing that the motor was not well.
Bought a '97 BA crash damaged car as a donor car for the motor in the '95.
Changed out the motor in the '95 to the '97 motor. Various bits were different between the two model years such as throttle body , injectors, distributor and temp sender so changed them over.
Started the motor and set the base timing. Engine had a relatively regular pulsing/surging idle.RPM was varying +or - 30rpm. (Think 12a bridgeport idle)
Looked for a vacuum leak everywhere including solenoids etc. and found a leak at the rear of the intake manifold at the upper half / lower half joint. Fixed that.
Started engine and now the pulsing/surging was more pronounced and more regular. Very noticeable in gear with the hand brake on. Hmmmm.

Just happened to have a spare distributor from the same year model so what the heck, why not try that as I was running out of ideas and adjustments to try.

Go figure....... the problem was fixed.

Maybe my experience is of some use to someone else

Not uncommon - the electronic distributors on these do fail. Mine did years ago.
