flywheels

hi guys,
are the flywheels in a N/A BP engine the same as a BPT flywheel? i currently have the stock 95 BA manual gearbox in. also is there much to be gained by using a lightened flywheel with the BPT engine?

there are 2 different gearboxes in the 95 models. G or F series. G = 225mm diameter... F = 200mm diameter. The flywheel fitment has nothing to do with the engine.

check you vin, if it starts with JMOBAP1, you have a G series box. if it is JMOBAP2 or JMOBAP3, then it is a F series box.

there are small gains to be had with flywheels, increased deccelleration of power, less power loss between gear changes are the main few.

Yeah, i miss my old lightened flywheel i had with my F series. The car revved noticeably quicker and accelerated slightly harder. But it was a little harder to consistently take off from a standing start (normal driving), or at least took more concentration with the clutch.

i must have the g series box coz i know its the bigger of the two. is it worth the money for one of these or is it abit of a waste? better to spend it on a different turbo? also will it effect the reliability of the car at all?

Shouldn't affect reliability.

If you doing a clutch, then it's worth it, but otherwise the cost of pulling the box out just to change the flywheel that doesn't make it worthwhile IMO.

I wouldn't consider it a waste - i've got a much lighter one to go in next time my gearbox is out.

agreed, i only lightened mine at the same time... cos is was $200 in labour to remove the gearbox alone. then add flywheel + clutch + fuilds etc. so wait until other stuff needs to be done.

Not talking about BG - as BA Astina is 225mm for BA11P1/F1 (1.8 + V6)

yeah, but the BPT never came in a ba...
and you can use the BG BP DOHC flywheel with the BA BP DOHC box.

i answered the first question, he then went on about owning a BA astina.

i gave a dimention of the BPT flywheel... showing that there is a gain in using a BPT flywheel over either BP n/A flywheel, lightened or not the contact surface is larger.

IF he didn't have a G series box already, he could get either of the G series boxs and use either of hte flywheels. he didn't exactly seem certain when he said "it must be G series cause its bigger....."
