Newby Question: Familia GTR vs GTX
Can some1 please clarify this up for me?
What is the difference btw the Mazda Familia GTR and GTX? All that i know is that the GTR has a meaner body kit...but i think you could prob just grab a kit and bolt it onto the GTX to make it look like a GTR? Apart from the kit..is there any other difference? So sorry about the newb question... Cheers

Google it mate, there's is pleanty of into out there to find if you look for it.
The main thing is the engine, but as primo said, there was improvments made throughout the vehicle.

Yeah the engine was better as far as I know, I've even heard the GTR engine had sodium filled valves and a heap of other better components. Whether or not it's true I don't know.

The $4-5K for the motor is a bit high being 13yrs old. If you can pick up the external bits like the intake and turbo etc you will get most of the bang for a lot less. Look at Rob got 60WHP by changing the GTX manifold & VF10 to GTR manifold & turbo cant argue with that.

Cheers guys.
Found out the diff is body kit, turbo, larger ports and vavles, reshaped combustion chamber, higher compressio, intercooler, gearbox - strengthened housing, shot-peened gear set, better clutch, differentials, and suspension. All this for an extra 22kw and 13Nm over the GTX... So i honestly have no idea how rob got ~ 40kw extra from just a turbo and manifold... Oh welps..sal good

You forget that the GTR was limited to 14PSI. Rob is running a Microtech so can run
whatever he wants. Also with a GTR you can up the boost on the standard computer and get heaps more power the 156KW was a very underrated figure.
