Exclamation heat light warning on and choking under load

Hi all :-)
My "heat" warning on the dash is on permanently

have a 1994 v6 2L Astina ( well is a lantis variant actually) BA model

Symptoms - lag and choking when throttle applied - breaking down like an electrical fault 2k and above - will rev out sometimes - but not when under load

Told it could be a distributor replacement ( module and whole distr)

but doesn't explain heat light on ???

have replace O2 meter and HT leads and fixed gaskets and cleaned all contacts - set idle to 600 - it doesnt seem to be hunting much
coil packs seem ok - plugs all replaced - looks to be sparking ok

ANY suggestions as to why the heat light is on? - and if it may be something other than the distributor ? would the water sensor cause these sorts of issues ?

appreciate any idea ta

If it is a heat light coming on it could be a warning that your Cataylitic converter is overheating.
I have seen this happen on a few of my older Mazdas.

I had this sensor on my old HB. I never ran the exhaust without the sensor regardless.
