Shock rubber mount

I was look on t'internet at nice shiny sets of pillow ball adjustable shock mounts this afternoon, when I thought 'no, no Mr T, you can't justify them', when something happened on the way home.

I have various rattles at the rear end that I need to get round to sorting (exhaust being one of them ), but I heard a sudden noise that I hadn't heard before and everytime time I went over a bump there was a loud knocking not good

I'm glad I don't have any interior bits in at the moment (still!) because it made it easy to see the problem ....

This how the rear shock should be (looking from front to rear):

This is how it is now:
Yep - that's the top of the tyre you can see there!

I appear to have popped through the rubber shock mount (28-380):

I'm hoping that a shiny set of pillow ball mounts will fix it, but I can't find any here in the UK. Have you guys seen any around?

Apparently, Mazda want £100 ea! (238.719 AUD).

Cheers,

Mark

Kmac weren't interested when i wanted to get some made up.

Apparently Noltec make them, but that was only a rumour.

Other than that i don't think they exist for BA

Unless you go coilovers - the JICs have them

cusco and mazdaspeed make them for the BA hatch, dunno the price on either and i dont think the mazdaspeed ones are avalible anymore but corksport(www.corksport.com) have mazdaspeed ones for the mx3(eunos 30x) and the mx6 i think the mx3 ones should fit, cusco make some solid ones, these are camber adjustable but the front ones, if u are using std shock and spring setup it raises the front 20mm but none on the back.

hope this helps

Spoke to NOLTEC yesterday in regards to pillow mounts for a BA Astina. They are listed in their online cattledog but when I spoke to them they informed me that the have been discontinued and are no longer available.

Just to keep you posted.

I've been offered some D2 Racing coilovers by Impulse Performance:

Price is about £680.

Has anyone heard of D2 at all?

I'm told they do, I'm close to ordering them, they'll be here by the end of October/early November.

I sent them some screen dumps from the Mazda EPC and they came back to say they do them. I guess I'll have to wait and see I'll let you know either way.

So far I now know of three makes of coilover for the BA:

JIC - Japan (?)
D2 - Japan
FK - Germany (http://www.fk-automotive.com/en)

Any Others?

The FKs are fairly cheap - we've got a club buy schemne going and their going for about £450 inc postage. They don't come with the pillow ball mounts though - which is why I'm not going for them.

Coilovers are here ....

The keen eyed amoung you will have noticed that one set of topmounts has 4 studs instead of 3 - that's 'cos they're wrong The front ones wont fit, so I need to get some replacement topmounts from D2. BUT I've offered up the rear topmounts and they look just fine

So chuffed I've wanted a set of these for a couple years - just got to get them on the car

About £680.

I fitted one of the rears tonight - the other will follow tomorrow morning. Can't fit the front ones until I get the right topmount, but at least my car wll be back on the road - it's been off the road for 9 weeks now - far toooo looooong

I just love the fact that you get camber adjustment on your rears.
But they do look pretty damn fine

Yep, one of the few D2 kits that have Camber adjustment front and rear.

The rear ones are on now - all fitted absolutely fine. I haven't had a chance to try them out properly yet due the crap weather here. Should hopefully have the correct front top mounts on their way next week.

Does anyone have any tips for setting up coilovers?

The rear of my car makes some pretty nasty sounding knocks when I go over a pothole. I just want to make sure I haven't missed something

I made sure the spring was under a little compression when under no load (off the car) - maybe it's not enough? I've made sure everything is tightenned up - twice

Or perhaps there's nothing I can do because everything is so hard, there's nothing left to absorb the impacts. I have SuperPro (Fulcrum) poly bushes all round, Whiteline strut brace and the boot is stripped out:
