Radiator questions for 1995 Astina

Gents.

The radiator in my 1995 Astina (1.8 litre, 4 cylinder, manual) has decided to kick the bucket.

I've been quoted $260 for an aftermarket radiator with a 26mm aluminimum core and 2 year warranty.

The only issue is that the parts shop doesn't seem to recognise my model. I keep telling them that it's the 1995 "BA" model but they insist that it's the "TR" model.

My questions:

a) Is there such a thing as a 1995 "TR" Astina and if so, is this my car?

b) Is $260 a reasonable price for what I've been quoted and if not, where should I be looking?

c) Can you recommend a reasonably priced workshop around the Strathfield / Parramatta area to do the work?

Many thanks.

that price seems really good. it maybe they've quoted you for the wrong model.

there is no TR astina or mazda as far as i know.

if you can get the radiator for that (and it's the right one) definately a good deal

Just sounds like the stock one at 26mm. Still a good price for one though.

I think they might be thinking you're saying 'maGNa' though - there was a TR Magna.

The 3rd gen Holden Astra was the TR Series (1995-98). You need a radiator for a BA Astina.

260 is a good price...the standard aftermarket replacement radiator for the BA 1.8L is a 26mm thickness...

Thanks guys. You were spot on.

Due to the "me lub joo long tyme" Engrish of the parts lady, she understood "Astina" as "Astra".

The correct radiator is still 26mm with an aluminium core. The revised price though is $288, which still seems "velly cheep" based on your comments.

Now can someone recommend an honest and reasonably priced mechanic to install the radiator? Preferably around the Strathfield / Parramatta area.

They're not hard to install yourself, if you've got a flathead screwdriver and 12mm spanner/socket.

All you need to do is:
- remove radiator cover panel (black one above radiator)
- undo the hoses + coolant overflow
- undo fan plugs
- remove radiator
- swap fans over to the new radiator
- and a reverse of the rest of the previous instructions

Thanks Rupewrecht. Unfortunately, I have neither the tools or skills for the job. I do however, have a case of beer for anyone who happens to have said tools or skills

Regarding the radiator, I also had a quick look on Ebay and came up with this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-LASER-KN...742.m153.l1262

It's only 16mm thick. However, it comes with a 2 year warranty and is only $154 brand new!!!

The site states that the radiator suits a 1989 - 1993 Mazda 323 / Astina. Presumably this is the BG model. Any idea whether it would fit into a BA Astina?

are auto radiators thicker than manual, or is that only because of the fluid cooling?

most aftermarket radiators are just sold as an auto as they fit both...and yes they just give you that bit extra room for cooling...

Won't fit, different tank design.

Its very easy to change the radiator over, if you provide the radiator a mechanic should be able to do the job in an hour

KN/KQ Laser = BJ 323Astina/Protege (98-03)

KJ Laser = BA 323 Astina (94-98)

KF/KH Laser = BG 323 (Sedan only) (89-94)

That eBay listing is way off. A KN laser radiator that fits a 89-93/94 astina??? wtf???

no where in that ebay listings does it say its a 89-94...

and kj radiator will not fit an astina...

the only astina radiator that is the same as the laser is the BJ 1 & 2 that fit the KN & KQ...

BG astina rad is 1 of its own & BA astina rad is 1 of its own...

LOOK ONLY FOR THE BA ASTINA RADIATOR!!! make sure its the 1.8 as well not the 2.0... doesnt matter if its auto or manual either...

The phone lady speaks bad Engrish.

BUT, the prices are dirt cheap!

looks like they're trying to piggy back off the name of
http://www.ozeparts.com.au/

( who aren't dodgy, and have the Radiator for $290 )

Why does one have "number of rows" = 1 and another = 2 ?
The price is significantly different.
