How do you know it's running rich? Bad fuel eco doesn't always equal rich running. Do you have that build up of crap on your bumper near the exhaust?

My experience was that my car started using more fuel, it went from 8.3l/100 to 9l/100km and had black soot on the bumper. I farted around with ignition, that didn't work. Next, the airflow meter was out of spec so a bought a good one that was in spec from a wrecker, but that was a waste of $60. Finally I took out the Lambda oxygen sensor and heated the tip with an oxy until it was red to burn off whatever was fouling it, and that fixed it for 2 years. My car uses a bit of oil, so I assume it fouls it in time.

Less air = less oxygen = rich mixture But the MAF sensor is supposed to adapt the mixture according to the air that gets into the engine :/ Last edited by tau9; 27-11-2013 at 06:58 AM. |

Give the poor car a full service.
If it's not maintained then it will use more fuel, run rough, stall and all sorts of unwanted behaviour.

I'm assuming it's a BG with a Carb..?
Ran a Weber 32/36 on my Sons 323. How was I going to tune it since it is old and very voodooish nowadys..? I bought one of these: Gunson Colortune http://www.ebay.com/itm/170674818644 If you know where your fuel mixture screw is... the rest is a piece of cake. ============== EDIT: Saw your avatar. Basic stuff like air filter, spark plugs, leads, coil, rotor, cap and maybe buy a new O2 sensor v v Last edited by Astina Gold; 05-01-2014 at 05:32 AM. |
