Lasombra's Evolving 323
Hey all,
Recently I was looking at the prospect of buying a car to modify, not beleiving that modifying a mazda 323 was possible or financially sensible. However, it didn't take much for my mates to direct me to sites detailing how you could modify pretty much anything on four wheels. Well that got the brain cogs turning and I started planning how I could modify my car. I decided I would make it into a gt-style car, one that would give me reason to laugh at holden and ford drivers (and we all probably know those "only commodores or falcons" types) when leaving them behind on the drag strip. Anyway, onto the car itself. CURRENT WORK DONE: K&N performance air filter (panel) 2.5in sports exhaust 16in Cobalt rims 2x 350w bass kicker subs and 500w amplifier Xplod CD head unit Interior neons x4 plus killswitch Removed crossbars from front bumper in front of radiator and replaced with mesh. PENDING WORK: Respray of front bumper Fitting of hood scoops PLANNED FUTURE WORK: Custom gt-style bodykit, rear wing and fenders Jet-black body respray Customised interior (leather, dash remould, dvd player, gps fitted into dash) Performance engine replacement or custom build (depends on which is cheaper) Fwd to rwd conversion Upgraded sound system CURRENT PLANNING: Bodykit currently being designed. |

performance engine will cost at least $5,000 for a really good one and on top youll need a new ECU... RWD dont even bother looking to expensive and hard for the 323... unless if its a 323 not an astina or protege...

as for the fwd->rwd conversion, last time i worked it out, i could get a clean '99 WRX (my fav ) and do minor mods for the same price as turbo rwd/awd conversion. Unless you go full custom and get the drivetrain from a different car, you'll probably want to hunt down the box, rear diff etc from an awd protege. you'll have to completely hack up the rear floor pan & relocate the fuel tank etc but it could be done. Other potential option for rwd would be canabalising a NA/NB mx-5. either way get ready to open your wallet and throw handfuls of cash at it

for the things ur gonna do to both the MX5 and the astina its easier and cheaper to get the MX5 and make the astina pannels fit on to it

be careful not always will it cool down the engine...also as you only have a standard car basically it shouldnt need any other cooling...

If your engine is relatively standard, you wont have any issues with cooling. Or at least shouldn't. Even a turboed BA wont really.

the weather strip i was refering to is on the firewall, when u open yur hood its the part that seals the hood with the firewall enclosing the engine compartmant. if u remove this natural aspiration and general air flow will work better than any scoop u put on + its quic, reversible and free
