Doh

Symptoms? 3rd gear or crunching in all gears? Or a big fat hole in the casing?

Secondhand it'll be around $450-500 for an F Series. You'll probably have to look around a bit to get that price, but it's better than $1000 than Mazford will probably want.

Rebuild will be about double that plus.

Actually, it might not be the box.

Get under your car, and look at the selector bushes that are inside the gear selecotr shaft that runs from the bottom of the gear level to the box. Check the bushes in each end and on both the solid brace and the actual selector.

I suspect one of them has gone and is you're not able to get enough movement from the gear selector

If not, it could be a bent selector fork inside the box. But i reckon it's the first option.

This happened to my box a while back,it had **** the planetry/spider gears, and jammed up the selector or something like that and i could only use 1st,3rd and 5th like you..ended up costing me like $1100 to have it rebuilt with new bearings and planetry/spider gears etc
