How long do 4 cyl's last?

Have the 1997 1.8L Hatch... it's coming up to 150k km.. Is it worth driving any further, or should I sell it now and get something else?

Obviously the more Ks the car has the lesser the value, but... I guess my question is does the car have much life left in it (assuming I drive conservatively)...

Will it go a KM over 200k? What's the normal lift span for 4cyl cars?

Plenty of little 1.6L & 1.8L engines still going strong with 300,000+kms on the clock. Same as anything, so long as you looke after it, it should last a lot longer. Just ensure it's maintained (servicing, check oils etc regularly) and you should still have many happy years motoring ahead of you with your car.

i have 206,000km in my 97 astina - it's treated very poorly in motorkhanas and track days and it's still running strong.
if you drive nicely, you'll the the estimated 300,000km out of it easily.

Although these things run on an oily rag, my old gemini had clocked over 350,000kms before the original motor in it was stripped down for a reco... had just over 410,000kms on it when i sold it!

Mrs Chipa's BG has 280,000k's on it and still going very strong. We've got a 1966 GT Cortina in the family that has done over 500,000 and is less than 60,000 into its second engine.

I've seen 4cyl's last well even after 300,000kms

depends on the service history as to how well they go at 300,00kms

My charade got to 340ish but died a sudden death with a few days of rego left,

Moral of story holding redline in a car that has not been serviced in years and has no oil is bad for the engine. Yes it really is that simple,

FYI, I have seen a few BAs on sale well into the 200s,

might not be great resale when you do sell it but if it goes fine now I would not expect a sudden death,
