dba brake rotors - sp20
has anyone got the slotted rotor replacements for the sp20 from dba? part no's 537 for the front, and 539 for the rear?
http://www.dba.com.au/dba_catalogue_.../Out/Mazda.pdf anyway, i emailed dba asking if they make the 4000 series rotors for the sp20, and their reply was we do not make any rotors for the sp20. i replied and said yes they do and told them about the part nos, and i'm waiting for them to reply as to if they are going to make the 4000 series rotors for the sp20. (details - http://www.dba.com.au/dba_catalogue_...eries_page.pdf ) so if you want them, demand is needed. so everyone, PLEASE email sales@dba.com.au and ask them when will they be making the 4000 series rotors for the sp20. even if you dont have the sp20, please for my sake and the other sp20 owner's sake email dba and ask them when will they be making the 4000 series rotors for the sp20. |

hmmm, just a word of advice on this one man! All the WRX's that come in with dba rotors on them have been shocking (shudder & poor pedal feel) compared to the standard Jap ones! I think the quality of steel used is cheaper (sorry) But if u were to compare them to holden or ford disc's then they are better quality. Thats my opinion an that front anyway! I dont think the sp's have enough power to need a slotted disc. Turbo maybe. I checked my pads the other day & lubed the slides and found they still had 6mm left after 70k and thats using the brakes hard every now & then.

i think you'll find that when upgrading to better rotors and pads that you use the rotors more, so yes they wear out quicker than the crappy stock ones.
naturally i would prefer to get an AP racing upgrade, but i cant afford $4k for a front and rear package. I think $250-300 per rotor (apx price on the 4000 series) is good enough for me. anyway, the sp's dont have enough power for slotted rotors? that is the most stupid (sorry) statement i have ever heard!!! there i no such thing as too much stopping force! excuse me for wanting to stop quicker from 100kph than stock. 1m quicker stopping can mean the difference between life and death, thats why i have no problem spending big on the best tyres and braking i can afford |

the dba537's are only in 4 bolt pattern for the 1.8's as far as I know. same unit in sp's just 5 bolt pattern...
if you want to stop faster once, then spend money on tyres. if you want to stop quickly repetitavely then spend money on tyres, pads (and granted to a lesser extent rotors) i've got slotteds on my astina and I have no complaints. i got some green fade a few times with the oem pads and rotors, but haven't yet with the rb156 + slotteds. is it the pads or the rotors? probably a bit of both. i fitted slotteds on my falcon (before the astina) and the difference in braking repeatability was astounding in that case (same pads throughout). i'm a slotted convert now. sure there is additional noise and pedal pulsation but i can live with that! i can't see much point in going to the 4000 series unless you are hitting the track to be honest. if you torture your rotors by thermal shock it isn't going to matter too much what you put on, they'll **** out in pretty good time anyway. 4000's should remain stable at elevated temps better than the oem or replacements. but then how do you get temps elevated long enough to warrant it on the road??? on top of all this there is always the aesthetic as well. slotteds look better than OE

i'm definately a slotted rotor person. for sure!
i was thinking of eventually getting out to qld raceway and a few other raceways around SE queensland. there is apparently a real good track near warwick which costs $800 to hire for a day. 8 ppl, $100 for a day! cant beat that! ok, i didnt know the 537's were a 4 bolt pattern only. the catalogue says it fits the 2.0L models as well. maybe dba are confused amoungst themselves! maybe i should just get this kit and forget about dba??? http://www.rr-racing.com/bigbrakes.htm - the 12" kit that is. for slightly more than 4 dba rotors i can get bigger front rotors! decisions decisions. btw, the picture of them is in 17" wheels rather than the 16's like what i have. |

give trevor sullivan at brake distributors australia (www.brakedistributors.com.au) a call about getting some 537 blanks drilled to a 5 stud pattern. he is somewhere around the gold coast from memory. does a fair amount of big brake conversions. he may be able to suggest some alternatives for you!
your stock rotors should "survive" a track day if you look after them properly. your stock pads or bendix bodgies won't be up to the task i'd be tipping.

my mate in his 200sx has their stock rotors and rb156 pads (well something like that) and he gets 2 hard laps out of qld raceway before they fade big time.
thanks for the tip on the brake place |

they are still only road pads. personally i am surprised that 2 flying laps are possible! track use is flat out torturous. with the 4 pot callipers on the SX it could be prudent to have a set of track pads to swap in before the days festivities.

the 1.6 has bigger front discs than the 1.8 and sp20, due to drum/disc combo
the 1.8 and 2.0 have the same setup sizes, but the BJII has 5 stud, and the BJI has the 4 stud rotors

Oh yeah i worded than one badly, I didnt mean to say slotted rotors were not better (of course they are, but not dba) i just said i have had nothing but trouble with dba rotors! Every car i have driven with them have shuddered, so theres no way they would stop better than a standard disc with good pads that is not shuddering, even if they are slotted. Dont let me stop uz from purchasing dba discs, just remember i told uz about it when ur pedal is bouncing up and down.
