Lost car Key, Possible Replacement from mazda?

HI all..

silly me.. I've lost my only key to my Astina
it was an original key.. what I'm asking out there..
has anyone else experienced this before and were they able to get a replacement key from Mazda directly? i've got the key sequence number

spare parts is closed so i can't check so I thought i might aswell throw the question up here?

will this be an expensive adventure?

Thanks all

Brad

If you have the key number then you should be able to have a key made by any locksmith. Not a key cutter, a locksmith.

Get the VIN and ask Mazda for the code. You may have to prove ownership but a licence and rego should prove who you are and that it's your car.
If you have access to the car then look at one of the lock barrels for the code.

If worst comes to worst then a locksmith can re-code the barrels to a new key.

Any barrel can be re-coded. If it takes a lot of work to remove the barrel then it will cost more to do.

Best step for Brad is to talk to a locksmith and get a professional opinion.

shouldnt need to, they can make a key for that barrel.

i bought a set of locks from a wrecker that had no keys, i just took them to the local locksmith and he made a set of keys for the barrels.

Otays.. I spoke with Mazda today, I'll be heading down to show them proof of ownership for the car, but it was $35 for a replacement key from them which wasn't too bad i thought, and they could get it in in a couple of days

fair point, I was just thinking of a royal pain in the ass of a spot that would involve pulling panels off

I got the key today, lets just hope that it actually works!

I used to have a key hidden up under a bumper in my first car......can't be stuffed now, cause you need the remote and the conditions under there would probably kill the microchips in the new ones.

Well i've got the keys, and stuck them in the car and they worked slightly tight.. but they worked
very happy..

those locksmiths have some funky machines there, they just punch in a code and their key cutting machine makes up a copy of your key.. awsome!

p.s...

I found my original key underneath the car.. under some cardboard..
how the hell does it get under there??
