Remote Central Locking for 2002 Mazda 323 Protege BJ II
Just purchased the car used and somehow it didn't come with the remote for central locking, the owner told me she didn't have it since bought, don't know whether she didn't bother to ask or this model really didn't come with remote central locking. Any advice on where I can get one? I'm from SA.

Mazda, but you normally need one to program it. It should have come with two sets of keys both with the remote fobs. At one stage you could use the 3s newer flip keys with them.

Ask Mazda first they can lookup your VIN and tell you if it had central locking. Then try e-bay/wreckers etc...

I'm pretty sure by 2002 they all did, it was the BJIIJ48s that all came with immobilisers though so it may not have.

I just checked the manual, mine came with central locking and immobilizers, I came to City Mazda to ask for the remote, the guy quoted me $215 + GST, ran out straight away.

I know that it is possible to add new keys to a 1.8 BJ, you have to have two fully working keys to add more and a guide thats almost impossible to find.
I know its possible to add keys as I made a flick out key for my car using a mazda 3 key, my original remote and a blank mazda bt 50 key inc chip and I had access to the re-programming guide. As far as adding new remotes its rather easy and you can find that guide online. |

Do you guys think it'd be more worth wide to go and install the alarm system (Viper) that comes with 2 remotes and cost pretty much the same price for just a remote to lock/unlock the doors?

It'll cost you more than the remotes will though for anything decent and you've still got to have it installed
