fixed the windscreen noise problem in my mum's corolla.... it would make a horrid reed-like or harmonica-like noise when driving down the highway at 135km/h or faster... the symptom was all too much alike my BJ's when I first bought the car years ago... Mazda created a countermeasure field repair by instructing mechanics to insert a 5mm thick foam tube under the windscreen moulding

Toyota OTOH never have such (cheap & simple) field repair and there's no official acknowledgement of this problem on the E120/130 series Corolla... from googling, most people who experienced this problem had their windscreens completely resealed under warranty, an expensive endeavour for Toyota, especially for owners like my mum whose car is out of warranty! So obviously, it came down to the simple matter of ordering the foam tube from Mazda for $5 and just stuffing it under the moulding! This is high density foam so it isn't really the same as backer rods use for caulking (besides, ones this small aren't available easily)

As I said, my car had this very same problem and once I found out about the TSB, I had it fixed under warranty.... the high pitch noise is very hard to localise, it sounds like it's coming from the wipers or cowl panel, but rest assured it's coming from the top of the windscreen... I verified this myself by putting my ear up top and it was loudest from there... the problem is, air makes its way under the windscreen moulding and would force itself out once sufficient velocity is reached and thus a reed-like noise effect is produced... insufficient sealant is the cause of this gap under the moulding and the body... the factory uses only a conservative amount of sealant so that the windscreen bonds better to the body, producing stronger structural reinforcement to the rest of the car... there's no water leakage problem because of this of course, and that's why people who had their windscreens replaced usually don't have this problem because glass companies usually use more sealant in which the excess fills the voids at the flappy side of the moulding

Nearly got killed by a ratchet strap falling of the back of a truck, think it may have messed up my tires and wheels... may be rolling normally on 16" and not 4x4 spec for a bit.
