door insert retrim

Hey has anyone retrimed the door trims of their early model Ba astina before? The door handle thing is in the way so its hard to measure how much material u will need and cut it to shape. I tried taking the panel out but it doesnt seem to be removable. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

The handle thing can be unscrewed from behind if you remove the interior panel (optional).
The fabric is glued in place, find an edge and pull carefully. Once off you can use it as a template. Primo replaced his with leather a few years back.

It is optional to remove the interior panel if you wanted to remove the handle thingie.
The fabric part is a sheet of fabric glued to the interior panel, removing the interior panel won't help remove the fabric 'cos it is glued on the outside.

Hey Sandman_kar,

Just gotta say its a pain to do !!! personally ill get a retrimer to do it for you, cause the front has to be cut abit in half cause its curved where you hold the handle cause im guessing you'll be re-trimming it in leather and you cant stick it on the curve - it wont stick even if you put heaps of glue it would just keep on pop'n out, hard to explain.

But i know this you have to take off the whole door trim, and then theres screws at the back to take the handle off - and now the very hard bit, you gotta rip off the original material and try to cut the new one perfect and use special material glue to stick the new one on. (and trust me you gotta cut it perfect and keep in your head theres curves)

The back is much more easier but the fronts good luck mate.

If i get time ill post a picture to show you what i mean.

ps: theres another way but if you want to do it, the front doors make a piece where the curve is in where the handle is so its all straight and then you can cut the trim and stick it perfect without curves, i probably gave you a headache - cause i gave myself one just one - like i said ill try to post a picture and show you what i mean.

i ahve retrimmed mine in leather. not that hard todo really. u just gotta strip all the gear off your doors and get the clam handle off. i used mega thick leather too. ive since seen leather thats much more maluable. i used silicone as my adhesive. worked a treat.

use automotive transparent trim glue that comes in a spray can. Autobarn sells the k&H brand which is quite good!

heres how my one turned out :

Notice the little batch behind the handle, i had to cut about 3cm long so it wont bubble up and has air to dry, but if you had a series 2 or 3 hardtop would be easier cause im sure their different style behing the handle im sure its straight like the back handles.

Use a hairdryer to make the material more pliable. You want it warm-/hot, not red-hot
