Are KYB strut mounts any good?

Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing the strut mounts from KYB for my Astina with some trepidation. Reason being that I have already had some aftermarket items made by Mackay & they were in a word, Rubbish!

No sooner had I installed one of these & dropped the car I noticed that the centre of the bush was starting to protrude upwards. Eventually it stretched to the point that the upper spring cup was bashing against the mounting studs with big bumps, hard cornering & when applying near full steering lock. Needless to say I have now returned them & got my money back.

What I am worried about though, is that the KYB's could be just a re-brand job & have the same problem. So if anyone has used these & can indicate if they are fine it would be appreciated.

I have looked into Genuine Mazda parts but at over $200 each I think I'll try and find an alternative first!

Cheers,

Jared

Well if they are genuine KYB then they would be from the same place or at least out of the same moulds MAZDa use to make them. Considering 90% of the mazdas that use KYB shocks usually have the lot come in already assembled into the factory.

Surprised about the Mackay ones normally pretty good quality. but then depends on application on lowered springs - stiffer springs, no surprise.

but I always use Genuine for these items to keep NVH down to stock.

I have used KYB before on customer cars... they're very good quality
I won't use their strut bellows though because they typically aren't shaped right and are stiff plastic that breaks easily

If KYBs are OEM that's a very good sign.
I've used Mackay stuff in the past without a problem, so it surprised me too. I'd say they're sourcing these from somewhere new & haven't verified that they work ok. Bit of a black mark on their name for me.
What else have they gone & stuffed up?

Good to know. Half thought about buying the bellows too, but nothing wrong with mine anyway.

That's enough information to satisfy me.

Thanks for your input.

Actually one more question.

Does anyone have a recommended supplier for these parts?
Apparently KYB Australia do not sell strut mounts, so the local official supplier can not sell them to me! How stupid.

I have seen them on Amazon for $43 plus freight. Don't think I can do much better than that, but would like to get them quicker if possible.
