Undreneath the board is a transister called 'Q6' (black block about 5mmx5mm). That may very well be the control for the interior light dimmer, it's all SMT (surface mount technology) under there so professional work required.
The output to the light is through pin F on the big green connector, is you want to go cross-eyed follow the tracks.

hmm, after checking all of the things on the main board and finding nothing that seems broken, I think you might be right with the transistor.

I guess that means I'm out of luck then.

It's a transistor, your local TV repair shop should be able to ID and replace it. Ask their hourly charge and advice b4 handing it over.

Thanks for that Cosmo! I owe you one :!:

Its touch and go one the best way to approach this. Its going to be a min charge of about NZ$40 to get someone to test the different bits, with no gurantee that they will find the prob. Or for NZ$60-$70 I can probably get one from a wrecker.

I'd be spending the extra NZ$$$ just make sure you get the same part. Yours would be different to Sirexs' CPU

Yeah, I sent an email to a wrecker, they only had a sedan version and the computer number ended in a "b" where as mine ends in an "a"

Out of interest, has anyone else had this problem??? If so have they ever tried to fix it?

I've been kicking myself ever since I made the mistake and shorted it

The hatch has a connection to the rear wiper, I guess it has something to do with timing or reverse, I don't have a hatch so I don't realy know.

The computer is also linked to sunroof, cruise control etc (isn't it?) so there is probably a number of different versions regardless of sedan/hatch

What does the CPU do?
  • Inputs
    Door, right front
    Door, others
    Seat belt switch
    Key reminder switch
    Keyless antenna
    Door lock switch
    Speed sensor
    Rear wiper/washer switch
  • Outputs
Door warning lamp on instrument cluster
    Interior Light
    Rear wiper motor (hatch only)
Seatbelt warning lamp on instrument cluster
    Ignition Key lamp
    Door lock timer (central locking)

I believe their would be other uses but without different documentation I couldn't tell.

Have you tested all the resistors that are near or comming off the Caps?? As this is a timing circuit, if it is not using the computer and just a simple R-C circuit, then if you have a open resister, then the circuit will not discharge (ie the lights won't come on).

Just a thought....(i may even look at dave's circuit diagrams more closely to diagnose the operation for you)...

Thanks Trav.

I drew the line at testing all of the transistors. It was starting to get past my solidering skills :-)

I've put it on hold as saving for a weeks holiday in Queenstown, but after that I will get quotes to check all of the components on the board, and also to get a new computer.

I think you will probably be right on the mark with the transistor idea! If your've worked out any likley ones then let me know and I'll check them :-)

Thanks for all the help on this one guys!
