Installing a car alarm in a BG

Hi everyone,

I just bought a Steel mate car alarm. I've had a look through the installation guide and it seems reasonably straight forward, tho i have a couple of questions. for starters,

When hooking up the remote central locking will i have to buy a central locking motor for the main drivers side door, as it is the only one that can operate the central locking?

Where is a good place to splice into the indicators? Perhaps behind the hazard switch?

And finally (for now)

Where abouts is wire that goes from the foot brake switch to the brake lights themselves.

If someone could answer these q's it'd be great.

Cheers,
Ashlin.

yes. the motor will open/close the drivers door, which would activate the existing central locking to open/close the others

I dont know the BG well so its hard to say, the hazard switch is one option, the wires from the indicator control arm on the steering wheel thingy is the other. if your alarm has only 1 wire for the flashers, u would most likely need to get 2 diodes and use them in a Y configuration to the 2 wires to the lights.

dont know. why not just use the wire right at the foot brake switch ? otherwise, check along the floor under the door sills, down both sides of the car.

you can hook into to trigger wire - mazda use a single wire system which is negative, and negative through 1500ohms

Go into the indicator stalk

go to the wire directly above the pedal, and make sure you get the switched wire!!!!!!!

Most of the BG and the BA had central locking but not remote central locking. This way Mazda could get away without a locking motor in the drivers door.
So yes you will need a locking motor and I'd be going after market.

As Ahb11m said, you wont need the motor/solenoid because you already have central locking in place. All you need to do is find the trigger wire and connect the wires out of the alarm system to that. Providing the alarm has the right outputs....some don't allow for high current application.

Definately not! You will find the indicator wires behind the kick pannel under the fuse box on the drivers side. Now providing all the wiring is done propperly for the alarm, or you have separate outputs for left and right side, you won't need to install diodes. I can't tell you exactly what wires they are, but armed with a test light or multi-meter, they aren't hard to find.

Does it say in the manual why it needs a trigger from the foot brake?? First one I've heard of that wants one for that.

mine has one, its usually for anti-jacking stuff

after i've had the ignition on for 30seconds it "arms" the moment i press the brake pedal (eg to stop at an intersection) the locks go down

yer the brake in mine can be used to lock the doors when the car is turned on, pointless stuff really, but i might aswell hook it up.

Are you positive i won't need the master locking motor? i don't think the drivers door has one, because it is the only one that can control the other doors, thus it is always needed to be pressed manually, note - my astina is not an SP so it may not have some of the better features.

i fitted my alarm and the easiest place to get to the indicators is at the front lamps, one wire each side. i don`t think you`ll only have 1 wire for the indicators coz they usually need one each side.

i think you will need a driver`s door motor coz the driver lock acts as a switch for all the others.
i may be wrong though, so if someone knows how to wire it up without needing another motor then i`m interested too!!!

yer the alarm does have 2 seperate indictator wires, another question.

How would i wire this relay in? It acts as a switch between the key on and the +ive hight coil. So any idea where a good place to get at that would be?

Thanks all

Ah ok, I get ya now....yeah you will need to get a master solenoid. Can get em from jaycar for about $15.

The best spot for the indicators is still behind the kick pannel, that's where all the pro do it cause all the wiring is kept inside the car and theres short cable runs.

As for the ign, you have to cut big wires that actually go to your ign barrel. Theres 4 in total. You only need to play with 1, but you just have the relay under the dash and run the wires to just under the steering column. When you take the covers away from the steering column, you'll see.

Well i'm finally getting around to installing this alarm, now that TAFE is over for the year. Off the ign barrel there are blue, black/white, black/blue and black/red wires. Which is the one i want?? Or how would i find out?

go out and get a multimeter, or go ultra tight arse on it, and buy a test light...

should be a lil probe looking thing, which you can connect into the back of the plug, and the nearest convenient, earth point (steering column usually here)

then just turn over the key, and as you advance onto which leads become active... btw - don't test for the starter... just assume its the one you havn't got too (prolly blue)

well as far as i can tell it's black/blue

thats the only one that lights when the key is turned to start, it goes off once the barrel goes back to start.

i dunno where your splicing into the wires but i wouldn`t do it up at the barrel.
you`ll find theres much more room further down the steering column.
why don`t you splice into the big wires at the starter motor? might be easier........
also, if your need the central locking diagram, i have it, and its reasonably easy to understand. all the central locking wires are available just above the drivers fuse box
