2 tone or not 2 tone???? thats the question!!

hey everyone,
currently my car has a scratch on the door between the driver/passenger doors that needs to be fixed up. i cant get it touched up as both doors will need to be done for colour match...
so i was thinking as i have a few scone chips in my bonnet too of getting a nice 2 tone done on it...
i was thinking of having a nice baby blue on the top over the standard dark blue....
its either this or a whole respray in either teal or baby blue metallic....
opinions??
anyone good with photoshop?????

I thought of going down this path a couple years ago, just with going a silver from the side body crease up, with a little pin-stiping to break it up a little more.

Daily drivers get scratches. How much are you willing to fork out to fix something that to most people is hardly noticeable?

don't know man... its really not a two tone car...

white and black might work, but i its been done to death and it's gonna attract too much of the wrong attention.

If it were me, id get it touched up...

otherwise just go a nice metalic colour...

Scratch resistant paint is what we need.
A few years ago I heard that Volvo were playing around with self healing paint

Wierd stuff, the outer formed a hard skin while the underside stayed liquid, any minor scratch or stone chip and the paint slowly filled it, then cured.

what i think BMW was playing with was a ceramic clear coat.

so they turned ceramin into a ridiculously fine dust and when gelled together would still be clear but would provide a super hard and scratch resistant layer.

ferrari uses that in their clear coat. its ceramics that can be sprayed haha. first started being used in shotgun barrels when lead was outlawed for shot, so when the transition was made to steel shot, the barels would wear out quicker.. so you get this stuff and ceramic coat the inside of the barrel with a fine coat, and done my old work sells the stuff i think it was like 400 to 500 a litre or some rediculus price. but i was watching on discovery ferrari super factories where they use that stuff in the clear coat. its not 100% scratch resistant, nothing is, but its damn good for a car.
google BMW Gina the outer skin is made up of some sort of polimer... very kool. there is a youtube vid as well have a look at that its amazing

Didnt Nissan have a scratch resistent paint a couple years ago??

Edit: Found this on a search on google

Quote:
TOKYO (Dec. 2, 2005)-- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has developed the world’s first clear paint that repairs scratches on painted car surfaces, including scratches from car-washing machines, off-road driving and fingernails.

“Scratch Guard Coat” contains a newly developed high elastic resin that helps prevent scratches from affecting the inner layers of a car’s painted surface. With “Scratch Guard Coat” a car’s scratched surface will return to its original state anywhere from one day to a week, depending on temperature and the depth of the scratch.

The water-repellant paint also has a higher resistance to scratches compared with conventional clear paints. A vehicle painted with “Scratch Guard Coat” will have only one-fifth the abrasions caused by a car-washing machine compared with a car covered with conventional clear paint. Scratches from car-washing machines account for the majority of scratches to painted car surfaces.

“Scratch Guard Coat” is effective for about three years.

“Scratch Guard Coat” will be applied for the first time on an SUV model that is scheduled for a partial makeover in the near future. The paint will be applied to the car’s chassis, bumpers, door mirrors, among other parts.

New Scratches

One week later

generally crash repairers will want to respray a whole panel/panels just for a small area..

fair few people recomend the callout scratch/chip/dent repairer for things like this.

Yeah but it's still obviously a photoshopped image, not a one-week-later shot. To replicate that first shot they would have had to have the car parked in exactly the same spot, at exactly the same angle, with exactly the same weather conditions and at the right time of day. It's disappointing that they didn't use a real photo.

Could it be that the camera was on a tripod for instance? this article was on the car show a couple years back, and within 15mins it was back to its natural state...

photoshoped or not if it does what its meant to do thats amazing that image does looked photoshoped, but it doesnt have to be, the top photo could be he second one they took, taking the clear one 1st then scratching the car. or the camera could be on a tripod, and have programing to take a photo at exactly same time each day. in any way if it does what its meant to its awesome. but yes the photos do look photoshoped haha
