Electric Supercharger
Hey guys. Yes, i'm currently addicted to ebay and just constantly looking for things to buy. I just came across this little gimmicky thing. I think its basically its an electric powered supercharger (more likely to be a fan LOL)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150331308987 For less than $90 delivered i'm kinda tempted to try it out especially since I just removed my intake resonator box and can feel some improved throttle response. I find their claims pretty funny though: - Increase your horsepower by up to 26% - Lower your gas consumption - Better vehicle handling!!! (they've got to be joking LOL) - Extends engine life??? - And from a different seller it also claims to give 4 PSI of boost LOL What do you guys reckon?

extract from Autospeed why they dont work:
"If this 3 litre engine is revving at 6000 rpm full throttle, this means that it inhales 7200 litres of air per minute (remember, one intake stroke per two rpm), or 120 litres per second. To put it in different units, each minute this engine consumes 254 cubic feet of air. To put that into context, a little 60mm diameter PC cooling fan flows only about 18 cubic feet per minute. So, just to flow the amount of air that this naturally aspirated, 3 litre engine needs, you'd need an array of fourteen 60mm fans working flat-out. And that's without creating any boost at all...."

can I tell you now at $90 it's a rip off.
What it is - is a cheap chinese made version of a decent quality industrial blower unit. These blower units usually made of metal - or hi quality stainless steel - use a similar blower fan like in your car ventilation system. They are normally used to control heat on ceramic heaters. In industry. they normally have a 240Volts up too 20amp motor normally a 15amp is fitted on most. normally last up to 5years on a good german Japanese one. the chinese ones made from palstic originally for there chinese counter part machinery are worth approx $21 trade. I pay $250 for my germany ones and they are onyl the steal version. but here is the deal. They are a blower- NOT a compressor. there has only ever been one really well made electric supercharger. It looks just like a normal Capa type - Centrifugal supercharger but no belt - a electric motor. Problem is with no Voltage to pwoer it it uses high current amps to do the work. - meaning you need a minmal 100amp alternator to supply the 40amps it needed to work up to 5-7psi. here was the catch most I saw were fitted to like 3 cylinder charades - stock alternaotr was 65amp. It needed a stronger battery to help it as the alternator only pecked at 90amps it's replacement one. And the extra load helpped suck the extra power made. IMO it's a funny but they can work. The problem is why would you. S/C's are still used but turbochargers made alot more sense every which way you look at it. but then again As I say not such thing as cheap power. Because each version has a price ot pay - at the pump- or even in case of my favourite NOS- you can't always have it full and it's not quite legal on the street |
