TX3 Kit?
Hi guys,
One of the options I've been considering is getting a turbo setup from a TX3 and running it on my missus' 323 Astina (11/1997 - BA??). It's the Shades version, if that means anything different, and I *think* shares the same 1.8L motor as a Laser?? In all my exhaust books at work the 323/Lasers have always shared the same components so going by that I thought it might've been possible to do this. Has anybody done it this way or have the conversions on here been done using all custom parts? Cheers -Jais. |

The Laser motor is almost identical to the Mazda GT-X engine, both are designated BP-26. Almost everyone here with a turbo has gone down this path. The big difference is in the ECU but that's something you can change after the conversion.
You'll find lots of info about the GT-X conversions.

a lot of people on here have gone the microtech way,
apparently they are pretty good value for money. but you get what you pay for i guess.. i would think motec would be fair expensive but im not 100% about that |

yeah a mate of mine is putting an F6 Typhoon motor into an XG Falcon ute and he's just bought a Motec brand spankers for about $2000 I think. He tells me it's the way to go as it will control DVCT - which I have no idea if the Mazdas have or not??

I have no idea of what DVCT is but $2k for a Motec is a cheap Motec.
A cheap Motec craps on any microtech. If your state laws alow programable ECUs then go for it.

haha I just spoke to my mate about it again tonight.... he paid $2000 for it.... in 2 installments - it was actually $4000 all up so might reconsider my options.
As far as the ECU yes they allow it as long as it's hidden and if everything looks factory then it will pass pit inspection. That was direct from one of the inspectors so I guess it's right? DVCT = dual variable cam timing which is what the new falcons have (I have 2 and know a bit more about falcons than most other cars haha). |

Sorry to bother you guys with more of this haha, but I've found a Garrett T25 (internal gate) that I'd like to bolt up now. Does anyone know of any company that makes turbo manifolds for the Astinas? Also I'm only looking to run 5-6psi boost with no intercooler, does anyone know what size injectors are in these from the factory and which ones would be good to upgrade to?
As far as ECU options, the Motec I mentioned earlier is a bit over the top... Are there any programmable chips or piggyback options for these? Or can anyone spill some more info on the Microtech along with an estimate on how much I should be looking at to get one tuned? (I/my cousin can install, he's an auto sparky). Cheers, any help greatly appreciated! Jais. |
