I'm thinking about putting my name down for a shifter, just got a few questions.

for starters, what is the length of the shifter from the ball joint to the tip of the thread? I have cut my own standard shifter down a few times and want to compare length.

Is the short shifter a diferent length after the ball joint compared to the standard unit? i presume so as other wise this would basically just be like my current ghetto hax0red shifter.

Finally how far is the throw between 1st and 2nd?

Thanks for ya time,
I'm definatly keen. Just need to sort out my money first.

I have the TWM installed in My BA.

Yes the bottom end is longer and the top end is shorter. Infact I had to modify my exhaust pipe because the bottom end hitting on it.

That is the current shifter Dave, that's exactly what I have in mine, you can see the blue cover over the bearings... Be careful since there are two differents sets of instructions getting aroud, they only updated the pics where you see a closeup of the base, so the instructions otherwise look the same.

The problem being that I have a momo knob to put on, and it currently won't go on the stock shifter, neither will the boot. Now, that lip up the top of the shifter, after the thread, how thick is that?

The TWM seemed to have a bigger thread than on my stock 1.8 BJ shifter... 10 vs 11mm?

I didn't look closely enough...yep it is the new one..the correct instructions for the new one and pics of the bearings are the ones on the TWM site. The old type is on the msprotege site.

OK Guys question time,

I have recently bought a Short Shifter for the Astina (BA) and have been thinking about the shift knob. I noticed that people have mentioned that a more weighty knob is better as it helps balance the shifter and makes shifting easier. The question is then what is a better weight? The BA's standard shifter weighed in at 300g.

Mate i have this shifter in my Bj11 Protege sp20 and it goes off I have the TWM Silver Gear knob as well. Took a lil getting use to as its a wierd shape but it has a good feel and good to use your palm of hand to change gears.

Only down side to the TWM knobs is that it heats up on long drives.. Its not uncomfortable but you notice it.

Doesn't it heat up cause you took the heatshield off?

For those who've taken the heatshield off, what stops the grease melting out of the shifter base and eventually rubbing itself near bone dry under the floor? If it's warm 12" away from the exhaust, how hot is it 2" away under the floor with no insulation???
