While you are technically correct, how about we get a little more realistic than quoting text book figures and do some real world testing of a 10 yr old car with crap wiring and see what sort of %% diference you can show then. Oh i'm guessing a whole lot more than 8%, like der ....

Just comparing clean runs of different size is pointless, If that were the case we would never change the default wiring because it would be straight through to speaker.

All you've told me is that huge speaker wire is a waste, well i already know that

Let me guess, are you an engineer? If so sometimes ya gotta grab that lovely text book you carry and throw it to the sh1thouse

*grins* That was my point and I'm a pseudo Engineer cars - especially used ones are more than likely to have crap wiring situations, and that's the _only_ reason why you'd really _need_ to upgrade the wiring for a system that's enough to cause hearing damage...

pay respect to physics, will you ^^
replacing defective wiring is a must, but be honest: that's not the common reason for most people to pull new wires.
marketing bastards managed to make a lot of people believe that the newest super xxx action wiring with 0.001% less oxygen and the secret vodoo insulation is a worthy investment for their car audio setup, while it is clearly not.

very same goes for the power cables btw. as long as the power wire diameter "buys" you enough time before the fuse blows (to prevent a fire in case of a sudden battery discharge), you'll be totally fine with much smaller diameters than you might have thought.

that's not meant as smartassing, but as a general impulse for rethinking the whole "audio wiring" thing...

nice process thread fhrx. cheers!
I am new here... I have been all over the forum and have not found any tips on removing doorskins yet. I have removed the front ones without any issues, but the rear ones are proving more difficult.
Any tips? I already have the door handle screw, and all the clips removed. Its just the armrest/handle and the screws behind it that are holding me up.
Sorry if this is detailed elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.

**edit. It's a 2001 sp20 hatch

have you got access on both sides? if not good luck.

if you do its difficult but not impossible, expect skinned fingers and bruised knuckles. you have to pop the plug from memory (push tabs in then out of the car) then you can separate the 2 halves

Wink Rubbish

just an extreme example:
here you can see a subwoofer rated with 200 watt of continous power handling.. see the small wires that come from the terminal? THAT is the diameter you need to feed the device properly,no more...

The wire to feed a speaker has nothing to do with the wire from the terminal to the voice coil as this wire even though it is small in thicknes it is rated higher
its equivalent would be 12 gage speaker wire.
its like comparing an apple with a pineapple
Please dont be fooled
