Hi everyone,
The other day the interior fan just stopped working. I was out of town at the time and my girlfriend had the car (always a bad idea I know). She said that she turned it on while she was driving and a whole bunch of dust came out (but not smoke) and then she turned it off. Hasn't worked since. I've checked all the fuses and they are all fine. The lights for the flow changing buttons work (you know the head, head and feet, demister etc.) and I suppose the temperature adjuster works but I have no idea why this freakin' fan wont work. I'm reluctant to take it to Mazda because they'll probably charge me an arm and a leg to even look at it. Can anyone give me any advice about taking the console apart? cheers, Andy.[/colorost_uid0]

u can take the dash trim around the dials etc off quite easily. there are a few screws underneath, and a few on the side behind the plastic panel that faces the door ( this just pulls off ).
Then it just unclips around the top rim. just pull that'll get u to the heater/air con controls and some of the pipes. The fan i think is on the passengers side behind the lower glovebox. Maybe it's clogged with dust or has something jammed in it ? Dave[/colorost_uid0] |

Hi guys,
Pulled everything apart last night and nothing seems to be jammed anywhere or clogged with anything. Was a bit interesting getting the whole glovebox assembly out to get at the fan easier. Didn't have a multimeter with me so couldn't check the electric output of the fan connector so we'll have to see tonight. Fan motor looks fine so if there's no current coming out of the connector I don't know where to start looking. anyone got any bright ideas? cheers, Andy.[/colorost_uid0]

Next day Update:....
All the wiring was fine as it turned out. The fan motor was actually the culprit after all. Having a dad who was originally an electrician helped a bit. The brushes on the electric motor looked as if they'd gotten very hot at some stage and there was brush **** everywhere. After giving the commutator and brushes a good clean, putting the whole thing back together with some oil on the bearings, the fan motor runs fine. It may eventually do the same thing and I'll probably have to get a new fan motor in the end but at least I now have a fan in this heat. Thanks for your help guys!! cheers, Andy.[/colorost_uid0]
