BG CAI.....what route to take u/date: K&N fitting guide

hi guys,
i`ve bitten the bullet and ordered a k&n filter kit.
i`ve got a BG.
i can`t see a decent route for a cai pipe without chopping inner wing or front panel. anyone got any tips or pics?
should get the kit on monday or tuesday. also, on my intake pipe to the throttle body there`s a box (just after the AFM) with a breather pipe from engine going into it. what is this and whats its purpose? can i chuck it?
cheers peeps

The box doesn't do anything , but there is 2 pipes the breather and another Pipe. These pipes have to be connected other wise your car woun't idel.

Box is where the 2 pipes conect into the intake pipe. So you shouldn't realy touch it.

What do you get in the kit?????

If you get an intake pipe with the 2 holes for the breather and the other pipe in the kit, then you get rid of the box.

Hey neil, looks like you're gonna get yourself one of these nice kits then!

welcome to the kn club hehe!

In the picture above is exactly what you get:

Cone filter, air feed ducting pipe, fixing bracket and bolts etc. Also a nice little sticker!

a word of warning though, DON'T undo the screws that hold the electrical sensor bit to the AFM. Just poke the little metal bits so the other part comes off. Its not hard to wreck your AFM like i did!

very nice kit, personnally i think its the best available

yip thats the one.
hey joe do you get the oil spray with it or will it be pre oiled?
and why haven`t you removed the resonator that sits above your radiator(photo)?
also i only intend removing the 4 nuts that hold the airbox to the afm. i didn`t think i would have to remove the plug thing. hey where did you route your cold air pipe?

turbo - your right, i seen the breather pipe (big one) but i never noticed the small bore pipe which look like its a vaccum job or summit.

That's the same pod that the MX5 is getting....

Although I need slightly different application method...

custom piping to put the pod itself in behind the front bar, remove the "baby teeth" and moving the AFM

a nice retune and

ZOOM ZOOM!

Will post pics if anyone is interested...

geetee: take pictures of your install please? pic at each step so that others can see what is involved etc.
would be a great help

Cheers and happy breathing!

*Red pods really do suck harder!*

The filter is already pre oiled so its ready to go. (it comes shrink wrapped in plastic so its brand spanking new with no air even touched it).

Ive got rid of the resonator now, i kept it on for a bit coz it looked quite good but its long gone.

as for the pipe, you even get a diagram with instructions. will post pics in a few hours or so. Goes from the gap in the front bumper on right and up through a gap, and angles to the filter. Difficult to expain exactly! when you get it you'll figure it out straight away

Check this link for the kn fitting instructions:

yeah well i might be doin that nows as well

how much was it ? where did u get it ?

was thinking of getting the guy who might fix the exhuast to install it but after looking at the pics it seems pretty easy

other question
what happens when it rains?
does the water go into the air intake pipe or does it have a hole in the bottom of it so it drains out ?

you could easily put a hole in the pipe if you wanted but it`s not neccesary.
theres no water gets in the pipe, even when i washed the car i checked it and it was dry! even if water did get in it would never reach the filter unless your car does about 180mph!!! it`s a fairly easy job and you get good clear instructions with the kit.
i paid £55 mail order, which i reckon is about $146 aus.

try e bay. there`s usually cheap K&N type filters on there. they look pretty similar but i dunno how good they are. i got a K&N coz it was a good price on offer.
most of the filters i`ve seen on e bay are universal so you would need the adaptor plate.

I'd stick with the KN. Best available for bg. With a million mile warranty you just can't go wrong!
