If the temp gauge gets to hot and the fan/s don't start then you have a problem. Also when the AC is on both fans will opperate regardless.

I thought it only came on under hot conditions.
So idleing in your garage you'll die of boredom before it comes on. I recall it coming on once, heavy traffic, 42 degrees outside and very slow crawling speeds, no fresh air to radiator. Temp gauge read maybe just below 3/4 then it kicked in and brought it back down. I dono how you'd trick the fan into coming on to test it without dunking the thermostat in hot water?

Seems like I am getting a similiar problem Going by the scangauge, the temps fluctuate between 95c & 105c, both at cruising speeds & on the highway, which after a suggestion from Orion, may be the ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR... probably corroded, as I could not find anything wrong with the belts & the fan/s is working...
Once unplugged, its reading -40c So will be going down to Repco tomorrow afternoon & purchasing a newbie, in which Tridon do have a part number: TCS032 Coolant sensor

Yep, thats my last point of cool. I'll have to whip it out and test it. Thanks for the part number on the replacment. I think there about $30-$40. So if that is the issue it wont blow a huge hole in my wallet.

That above part number is for the SP20, best to look it up on the Tridon Website before heading to the parts store
http://www.tridon.com.au/partfinder/default.aspx Well, did a run around this afternoon and purchased the sensor for a rip-off price of $67 at Repco, and after installing it tonight and going for a run, its still getting hot, so some digging around on Mazdas247 has made me think its the thermostat stuck (which let go around the 80k mark), so will be buying a newbie & coolant tomorrow afternoon... Fun times ahead

Well i've just completed a 4hr drive and i didn't lose any coolant. The last thing i changed was the thermo. It was pretty cruddy looking and i guess that may have been the issue. fingers crossed she all stays fine.

Hey guys,
I recently had the same problem, my fan wouldn't spin when it got hot and was idling, but would if the AC was on. After heaps of troubleshooting (multimetre readings etc were fine), I worked out that if it was hot and the fan SHOULD be on but wasn't, popping the bonnet and 'jump starting' the fan would kick it out of what obviously is broken (teeth?) within the fan and it would start to spin. What was more weird was that the multimetre gave in fact a lower reading when the AC was on, but almost always would start spinning. So, solution was, go to the wreckers and picked up another fan (took 5 minutes to get off, and was about $70 I think). Installed it, and now the fan always spins when needed, and on top of that it spins I would estimate at least 2x the speed the old one did. My BG has never sat above just under half way since . |
