i dont get it. why carpc AND xbox ?

xbox can load games from disc onto the HD - can do pretty much anything a pc can, other than GPS.

The xbox is for gaming only, since my hd is full of games already.
The pc will be used for music, movies, gps, 3 cameras, and also for running standard pc applications.
And I don't know if the xbox supports wireless networking.

the xbox can use a wireless network. I think MS have released something that lets you do it - can't remember what its called.

my xbox will be used for mp3 ( it can rip from cd tp mp3 ) and dvds, pics from camera maybe.

That an tone generation for tuning & tests.

I wonder there's a usb gps reciever available ... xbox could use that too. I have no need for GPS. I know how to get to work and back :/ lol

there's a community project going to get windows running on the xbox - I think they have Windows Mobile ( CE ) working fairly well.

The OE wireless for the xbox is simply an expensive 802.11b bridge you can but other 'normal' brands for almost half the cost! There was a person who had CE running with GPS but I cannot find the rotten page (I was reading about it under a week ago)! I just rebuilt my work computer and didn't backup my browser history. I'll try and dig it up...

this is the one i was thinking of
http://xbox-windows.org/

i think running windows ce is more than I would need in my car.
I reckon i'd stick to linux if i really really needed an OS running.

Well i got mine for free (pressie) But i think similar ones go for about $2-300 on ebay. Mines an old basic model, that didn't sell in Australia.

However it does the job fine. I bought a 256mb SD card for it and will prolly buy a 1gb sometime. There are HEAPS of addons for the CF slot, GPS, USB, VGA, mini drives, the list goes on and on.

http://www.expansys.com.au/

The dash mount i built myself out of bits and peices, then bought a car cigarette charger for it. Shelled the charger, installed it permanently under the dash added some longer wire then poked the connector through a hole i made in the dash.

ive got a 1gig & a 256mb expansion card for my pda and there is no way i could keep enough music on there to keep me happy.

i doubt the sq would be all that great too

but its still very nifty ! I've written a program for mine to control my xbox - it has the full music list of the xbox and will play a song by clicking on it. works great
