Gearbox for BPT

Hi all,

My friend has a Ford Capri with a modded BPT transplanted, as far as we are aware it's running with the standard B6T gearbox, would this be possible? if so how strong are these when mated to the BPT? whatever gear box it has, he hasn't had any trouble with it.

Cheers, Ashlin.

Pretty sure it's possible to bolt the B6T bolt into a BPT. Probably isn't as good as the B6T, but still not a bad box.

You cant run a BPT box then as they only came in 4wd.

Best bet would be a 1.8L DOHC G Series gearbox commonly found in BG and Series 1 BA Astinas.

These are supposedly the strongest FWD gearbox.

So it wouldn't be the orignal B6T gearbox that the car came with?

Im pretty certain the only turbo car to come with a FWD gearbox was the BF series 323. This was also a factory LSD box.

It could have this box or it could be a std 1.6 gearbox.

The turbo TX3s which had the B6T were all 4wd IIRC.

My laser history is not too great so I could be wrong.

yer so did the 90's Ford Capri's however they were only front wheel drive. I presume being from a standard turbo engine they would be reasonably strong.

the b6t fwd box typically isnt a lsd one , only the 323 infini models in BF and BG have the lsd box , which also has diff shafts...

the b6t fwd box is the same as a BP dohc FWD box internall give or a take a few minor difference , basically any G series box has the same internals and strength, some being slightly better than others but not much.

i wouldnt dare fit a BP dohc box in a capri the mounts are differnt and its also hydraulic clutch not cable , it would be a nitemare and for no apparent reason..

also the b6t box lines the motor up in the right spot , u also fit the b6t side mount and bracket to the bpt block in order for it to all line up

i have the exact same setup in my wagon which is a BF 323 and it shares a similar floorpan to a capri/laser

u can use it if u keep a smaller clutch and flywheel but it will slip unless u get a heavey duty custom one and the box will blow up under the power unless driven like a grandma . the diff spider gears etc are too small
