Need some serious help with my driveshaft situation

So I called the guys at Burson's again today after discovering my layshaft and the guy I talked to reckoned the long shaft is supposed to replace the intermediate/layshaft. As in, I remove the layshaft, throw the whole thing away and install the long driveshaft in it's place. This doesn't sound right to me, as I always thought the layshaft was there to reduce torque steer. Burson's also said they were same part numbers for the 1.6 and 1.8 engine. No ADM BG Astina came with a 1.6, so i'm even more suspicious.

I'm getting sick of being ****ed around with information again and need someone who has a BG Astina SP and who has changed their own shafts, not some wannabe mechanic behind a counter or, no offence, some keyboard warrior with less knowledge than Burson's.

I want to do this myself, i know i can do it myself and i'll be damned if i pay a workshop $100 an hour for them to have a try. Pleaseeeeee help me.

I would smack him in the head.

Count your inner splines that go into the gearbox. If both are 24, then you have SOHC F seris shafts, (which I presume they arecos there is 1 long shaft). IF LHS is 26 and RHS is 24, then you have DOHC shafts.

I would be returning them and telling them you want a full refund (with no restocking fee) as they ordered in the wrong part/s. Then go somewhere else that knows cars/Mazdas.

The BG sedan uses a long shaft for the 1.6 and 1.8 SOHC engines and lay shaft for DOHC 1.8s. It looks like they've looked up the wrong car.

Both of you guys have my respect on this forum, so to hear you both agree makes my blood boil @ Bursons. I'll go down and count the splines later, but who else is left to get parts from, Repco? They reckoned they only had the left shaft of mine and had no part number for the right.

Car is my daily, so I need to know I have the right parts before it goes up on the stands. Thanks guys, might ring Bursons tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind. New job just got hectic real quick as i've replaced the guy I was working with, so my time is even more limited now.

Might have to admit defeat I guess and put it in with Automotive Plus and cop a flogging in labour.

You could even tell them Ford Laser KF/KH 1.8 DOHC - they're the same as BG Astina SP. Or KF/KH Turbo.

Really? I assumed they'd be the same due to both running G Series boxes. There you go.

I cannot tell you with 100% accuracy the difference. But it does have to do with the diffs being different between the G5M-R and G5MX-R boxes.

Getting the new ones in from Driveline, they've got the left but need to order the right. Hopefully it gets in before the weekend. Parents are returning everything but the oil to Bursons today. Now i've just gotta find the right seals and i'll be ready again. I might try Bursons in person on Saturday for the seals, otherwise I'm stumped on those too.

Gee, good thing I rang up to check on my order...that no one placed. So now I definitely won't see the shafts before the weekend. I swear, if Driveline do not come up with the correct parts, i'll be selling the astina. Too much ****ing hassle with retards who's computers seem to tell them i have a 1.6L SOHC auto Astina all the time. Someone else can deal with this Frankenstein mother****er.

Could be worse... my mother owned a Volvo 262C and each time she needed a windscreen the glass shop would carry on about it being a coupe and it needs special glass which will take months to get and cost more than the car was worth blah blah blah.... It had the same glass every 2xx series that had been delivered in Australia for the previous 10 years, just layed back a little.
Lucky she knew or she would've been ripped off blind
