SP20 handling issues

I've recently purchased my first Mazda, a very tidy 2001 SP20. I've noticed it turns in superbly however when on throttle hard at the apex, the feedback /vibration through the wheel is alarming to the point where it feels like something is going to break!.
The vehicle tracks beautifully straight under breaking and the wheels have been recently balanced along with new front shocks installed. The CV's don't make a noise and there doesn't appear to be anything else unusual going on.
I race a classic Alfa in Targa Tasmania and was hoping to do my stage Recces in the Mazda but I'm not willing to at present. Is this a handling trait of these vehicles or does anyone have an idea on what is going on?
