'97 BA Hardtop 1.8l - Creaking from passenger footwell?

Hey guys,

Been lurking for a while but never thought to make an account - I have now because I need some opinions!

Long story short I inherited the Astina a few years ago. It hasn't really aged well but it's just ticked over past 200,000km which I believe is major service time.

Chances are I'll end up sending it to the mechanics, but I'm having this strange problem that I'd rather try and fix myself than them fumble around with the car for days figuring it out...

There is an eerie creaking sound coming from the passengers footwell. The best way to describe the noise is somebody grinding their teeth, or a old tree creaking while swaying back and forth. It's very slow, and does it whether the engine is on OR off.

I'll try get a recording of it tonight, but in the meantime does anybody have ideas?

Lets try something less expensive. Swaybar moved left or right and fouling the long bolts that hold the front sub frame.

Haha I didn't explain myself clear enough...it does it regardless whether the car is moving, stopped, on, or off.

In terms of what it sounds like it's like this except think more snoring like...

Sounds like you have a homeless person living in your wheel well. Have you made a visual inspection?

He might be living in my spare pair of joggers down there, they've been there for a while

I have time and time again and it sounds like it's coming out from the bottom of the dash. Other than that I'm not really sure, I'm only just on Uni break now so I should have a spare weekend coming up where I can have a proper look.

Is there any usual suspects that I should look out for?

Going for a drive now, I'll see if I can catch the sound on video!

Funny...didn't hear it last night or on the way to work today. Maybe it fixed itself?

I'll keep an ear out for it...
