advice needed on BJ astina mods!

Cool site! I've owned a 2000 astina 1.6ltr for 3.5 years (61,000k's
16" ROH & toyos, meshed f/bar, tint sound/rust blah blah proofing
wot I've been thinkin on as possiblities~~

extractors + 2-1/4 piping + s/steel 6" muffler 4" tip
cold air inducted pipe with aftermarket panel filter
high rate FPR
unchip
tuning / advanced timing (??)


staying n/a what I'm wondering is ~~
1. will a hi flow cat be a worthy, or should I get the most life out of my stock one? rather not fork out but if its gunna cost bux to retrofit a type of adaptor (to connect the new pipe>cat) then?
2. CIA

Will it offer much with the FPR already installed? Heard a quote of $1600!!! But surely u can get much cheaper.

Street Dreams intake:
the intake in question is very sexual, coolsp is actually now another the happy owner of one... it looks cool, (polished stainless always does) adds better throttle response, and that little bit extra at both ends of the spectrum... i do have a kinda biased opinion though, best money i had spent on my car till the turbo, makes a roar that would make you want to hold it at 4,000RPM in 3rd all the way home in the cold...

Unichip:
$1600 is cheap for a fuel management system, from what i have heard and the extreme lack of power gain (seeing they sell on the fact that they boost the car so much) i would, if buying fuel management look to a better more respected brand in the motor industry. I myself run a haltech f10 and it does everything i could dream of out of a fuel management system including control my boost for me.

There are plenty of fuel systems around, all will help make the most of your exhaust/intake mods from more precise aftermarket tuning than your stock ecu. You name it, there are tonnes of brands out there. I've always been a haltech man, they are aussie and from everything i have ever heard there damn good, price also depends on funky extras such as hand controllers etc. but at the end of the day a unichip is a very very low end model designed simply to sell by the bucket load to make money for both unichip and the so called "authorised dealer" that sells it to you.

just my 2c, no offense to any one who owns a unichip, i am sure that if you have one and are holding on to it that it does the job. Hence this be your turn to speak up and drop abit of retrospective opinion on these units from someone who has one..

Well I have a Unichip and am happy with it, if not "over the moon"....

That price is HIGH, having paid $1100 for mine installed at Croydon and dyno tuned. It doesn't make a massive diff in top end but is VERY useful in mid-range grunt especially, feels rather like a stroker.....

My SP20 chipped will pull 5th easily up a long local incline with air on, that a mate's Alfa 156 needed 3rd gear to deal with. Nuff said.
It needed 4th gear before the chip......

I don't believe the "high flow" cats achieve much for the $$......

If you goin' to do the cat then better off do the whole system at once, else you not getting much from the cat. if you need to split the process of doing the system I personally will split in this order:

1. muffler
2. cat-back piping
3. header
4. cat

The Injen style CAI kit, I personally reckon it's a rip off, order an Injen one and cost around 220 US plus shipping which will be a better product and a better price

best to do the unichip at last mate after all other mods else u will need to get it retune to get the best out of it.

Yeah I was planning the full exhaust system in one install, is there anything I should be weary of i.e. dodgy installation etc?
critter what was the gain from the dyno?
Whereabouts can I find the injen CAI?
Alot of you guys have sp20s (jealous!) I'd want to be sure what works for you can fit my car as well...and yeah wiredone interested in what the haltech cost u?

F10 is a fuel only ecu, so its piggy packed ontop of the factory ecu.

The gain from the Unichip was about 12%, without looking it up.
The bigger diff was in torque and general driveability.

I agree you have to look at the locally developed CAI. The Injen is $US230 which is $A325. By the time you get it freighted, pay tax etc, it's gonna be over $400 anyway.
Support local business that supports us says I at that price difference.

i run an e6x.... which is actually in control of everything... ignition timing and fuel
