Kayaba Springs + Dobinson shocks
I have been quoted $1300 (discounted price, normally $1500) to replace all four shocks and springs. The springs will lower the car as well.
Is that a fair deal? I do not know much about thoese brands though, only heard of Kings and Monroe being mentioned. thanks Matthew |

G'day Matt,
I haven't heard of those brands either.. but it would appear that Kayaba are made or at least distributed through KYB, [SEEN HERE]. As i look closer it would appear that Kayaba is the full name for KYB in other parts of the world. Not sure about the Dobinson shocks though.. All i can find are their coils and 4x4 shock information.. I just did a quick Google Search on those. Regards AP

Thanks AP. A friend of mine just confirmed that KYB is short for Kayaba. He also told me something about coilover, saying that they are better because the springs and shocks will be from the same company, they are perfect fit.
What do you think about the price? I haven't changed shocks and springs before, so I'm not sure what's the market price. |

Well, $1300 is certainly a good deal for shocks AND springs.. I would advise you to shop around and see what else is on offer though..
Regards Adam.

Thanks Adam. I went for another quote. This time I was told my bushes and bumstops (? what are those things?) are goners, so I have to replace them as well.
The total bill for Lovells Springs, Monroe shocks, SuperPro bushes and labour comes to $1700. Labour alone is $363. This place looks more professional though. |

Hmm I wouldn't think so Lamby.. I'd say that would be the cost for just coils and dampers alone.. I reckon my total suspension would've come close to $1700.. [see readers ride for info]
Bushes = usually OEM rubber items found in suspension setups [ie sway bars] to avoid metal on metal contact.. replacement items are cheap and come in various materials [polyurethane] [see image below] It's the dirty yellow thing.. Bumpstop = similar concept to a bush to avoid metal on metal contact of the internals of a shock absorber [damper]. It stops the piston [shaft] of the damper fully reaching it's down stroke and hitting "rock bottom" or bottoming out. I hope i have those explainations right.. It's the basic concept anyway.
