Aperture is a modest 2.8-8.0, which I think is not bad for a bulky P&S, and when using CHDK firmware, thats bumped out to F11

I havent really tried any of the other features as yet, but will do in the next couple months

I bought a cheapy chinese branded hotshoe flash from ebay, was only $15 and arrived within 5 days, will throw up some photos this evening

That's pretty decent. I've never really had a look at the powershoots.

Get a better camera Nah, i've seen some pretty decent stuff with a 1000d.

First tip, don't trust auto or you will want to throw it out. Put it at least on "P" and have your iso on about 200 for EVERYTHING! Then when your ready to go advanced, switch it on full manual!

Anyways, jake (Most of you have met him) finally replaced his pulsar with 320000kms with this thing. He was going to get a SP23 but decided he wanted to be more luxurious haha. This aint the official shoot, was just a coincident i had my camera on me.

Half press the shutter button on 'Auto' and see what it recommends for settings and go from there on the 'P' mode.
Its pretty much how I learnt to use my 600D.

SO here is my new cheapy Flash, goes ok for $20

And here are some photos of with & without flash: f/4.5, 1/250sec, ISO100

And a big surprise this arvo, my filter kit arrived! It fits my 52mm lensmate quick change adapter, came with 6 filters (grey, blue & yellow graduated, ND2, ND4 & ND8 filters) & the adapter, just going to take some getting use to..
The kit itself:

And a couple photos taken with the ND4 filter & Blue Filter

No, a shutter speed is called a shutter speed haha. ISO is the measurement of how sensitive a digital camera's sensor is to light. The speed or light-sensitivity of a digital camera's sensor is rated in ISO numbers the lower the number, the slower the response to light. The higher the number, the higher sensitivity to light.

But why 200? Because if you go on 1000 or so, your images will look grainy, and nobody likes grainy images Catch my drift? Just change your shutter speed to compensate for this. So now i'll explain them haha

Shutter speeds work in normal time. Aka, 30 is 30 secs, 1/125 is exactly what it says, its 125th of a second. So, 30 is a slow or long shutter speed and 1/125 is faster. A slow shutter speed (30 or so secs) will keep your shutter open for that long, So if your shutter is open for 30 secs during sunny days, what's gonna happen? It's going to go white because of so much light! So, keep the slow shutter speeds for the dark and keep the fast for the light. Ok, i'm ranting, i could go all day and i haven't even started on apertures.

BUT, if you have it on "P" it's still auto and it will determine what you need, but keep your settings in tact (ISO, image quality etc) whereas straight auto changes all that for you, and auto aint smart and will make some of your images poo. By all means, use auto in fairly straight forward images, but for photography, no.

You will get it over time, i only started photography about 3 years ago.

Nice shot ben!

Seeing as I forgot to charge my battery for last nights photo night, I went out early this morning and shot some photos at River Heart Parklands here in Ipswich, and my buddy luke (along with Tash & his wife Sarah) jumped in the car late this even and ventured back out to the Gateway & then to William Jolly Bridge in Brisbane, spun some wool, had a good time. Some of the photos from today:

My little brother brought round his new Hilux SR5 he picked up this afternoon, and seeing I had the camera gear in the car, decided to take a couple snaps while also having a go with running round with the Flash I will definitely be looking at getting a soft box
