Accessing cigarette lighter to install neons
I'm trying to install some interior neons in the footwells of my BG. I want to access the power from the cigarette lighter so that the neons come on with the accessories, but I can't figure out how to get to the power source for the cigarette lighter...
Can anyone help me? |

there should be a plug on the back of the lighter with a positive and a negative. you can use a test light to see which is positive, and the other should be negative. you can just splice in to those wires. may i suggest that you install a switch before the neons. so that even though they come on with the accesories, you may turn them off when you want to. its just a inline switch on to the positive wire, before the neons, because trust me at one point you "might" get sick of them boeing on the whole time
hope that this helps mate wellcome to AGT by the way Tony |

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, switch is a good idea. I'm also going to put in fuses for each of the neons, just as an extra precaution.
I understand how to wire it up and all that, but accessing the plug is the problem.. I don't know how to get to it... |

The way i set up mine were i wired the positive into a spare fuse slot in my fuse box which is located just under where that red ignition light is beside the steering wheel. you cant miss it if you put ur head level with the seat. Then i jsut grounded it to a bolt in the dash.
Its been perfect and never giving me troubles. Also make sure you install a switch, i did two just cause i got pulled up once for having them so since them if i get pulled up i flick my non visable switch so if they try turn it on you cant etc.... got me outa trouble...Stupid mt gravatt mountain GRRR |

Not sure if its the same but in the BA, the dash doesnt need to come off - just the centre console.
BTW I would make it triggered by the illumination not the accessories. Otherwise it will be on whever you drive the car. Maybe thats what you want, but I would make it on only when you have the dash or interior lights on. |

I want to try to pull apart the center console but I have no idea how to do it.. I found two screws at the top of it, just above the climate control panel, so I'm going to try and take those off and see where I can go from there.
I still wanna have it come on with the accessories coz I'm going to put in a switch so that I can control when they are on and off. Just gonna give it a go today. Also installing my amp & sub today Thanks for all your replies. |

it's just a couple of screws to get to, take out the ashtray 1st then a few on the side and those 2 near the hear switches you spoke of, the surround sould move free after that, i installed much the same as you but black lights for my instrument panel. i put a plain black plastic switch next to the cig. lighter to control it too. hope that helps.

Thanks heaps for that. Its certainly made it a lot simpler. I tried to take it apart earlier today but I got stuck.. It only came off halfway.. then I realised that there were clips as well.. Hopefully I'll get it off tomorrow.
