Bye Bye Astina

soo.. long story short ive sold my astina.
a brief history before i get into the details, im 17 and am onto my third car :P

car 1

my first car was a pipe dream that almost came true, a 1959 hillman minx series 3a Pics Here
i bought it for $2500 and learnt to drive in it. it had some oil filter issues that led the the engine seizing up on a sunday drive i sold it for 3000$ along with parts id gathered to a bloke in melbourne who was going to make it a showcar.

Car 2

After selling the hillman i found the astina. my brother drives a BG so i went for a BA and found one for 600$ with front end damage, i fixed it and drove it for about 8 months or so. it never looked much with its mis-matched paint and smokey mornings but it was fast, smooth and a fantastic car, ill really miss it and for the first time, im bothering to show you all some pics of my BA :P me so lazy
Pics here
anyhow i sold it for 1000$ last weekend ( i intended to sell it on here but it got a lot of attention on the classfieds and sold fast)

Car 3 Current car

while looking for a car to race a hillclimbs i came across a 1980 KE55 corolla coupe PICS
it had hit a pole and had a broken window but was otherwise in good condition with only 133,xxxK's i bought it for a mind blowing 100$
i bought a green one in bad nick for parts for 300$ and replaced the window and fixed the front end to a driveable state (pics are of before repairs will post as it looks now later) i also have factory mags to put on.
its VERY easy on fuel, its a 1300CC with an auto 3speed. it has nothing on the stina for speed but the looks go a long way with the ladys
im going to drive it until i can afford either a 300ZX twin turbo or a 1977-76 ish celica ra23 or ta22

im still going to hang around this site though, my brother still has a an astina so i have an excuse :P

so why did you sell the astina :S? unless there was something catastrophically wrong this seems a bit funny.

i dunno really, if it did not blow smoke and had a complete paintjob i think i would have kept it, i guess i started drifting away from it after it was stolen and recovered. just never seemed the same after that
the corolla really is a very nice car, not much in performance but looks real nice, i get lots of people looking when i drive by
its also great on fuel, almost 2 thirds of what the stina used which is great because im a delivery driver, just means people have to wait a little longer for their chinese

almost no rust, a few very small patches

yeh they are becoming very common cars for engine conversions, sr20's n rotaries, im amazed you were able to find one so cheap because alot of sellers seem to know these are common, ive been chasing something like this for a few years as a sort of project car, they really are great looking little cars, yes i am jealous of it

yeah i understand if its been stolen y u drifted from the stina,
once a car is crashed or stolen its never the same in terms of how u feel about it, thats why i will always sell a crashed car or hope its a write off, otherwise i know ill thrash it.

i am going to change it to manual (i have a 4 speed in the rolla i bought for parts) but as for an engine swap. i dunno. when i bought it i had to fiight mum for ages to be the one who gets it, she wanted it because it reminded her of he old dato 120y, anywho she said somthing along the lines of killing me if i ruin this car, she considers chucking a 13b or a 4age in it to be ruining it. it does get along nice with just the 1.3 though, so with somthing with more grunt, mabye even a turbo it would be very quick.

also, im the third owner, the first owner was an old lady who barely drove it and kept it in a garage and the second owner was a young guy who hated it and wanted to get rid of it so bad that he sold it to me for 100$ (worth way more id say) i think he may even have drivin it into a pole delibertly. he never said how much he paid.

im still getting used to fighting the choke in the morings :P
one big plus is that it has aircon

im going to buy one of the earlier KE55's with the round headlights and the grill set further into the car and swap those parts over, looks way nicer
