Cool Rate This System!

Heya All,

Before I decide to buy my audio equipment I thought id get some feedback and opinions on my planned system.

I currently just installed a Kenwood 9026r MP3 deck and & Kenwood V7000 Monitor and also Im close to installing a slimline PS2.
Im planning to install the following:

Front: MTX 6001 6 inch splits
Rear: MTX TDX 6502 6inch coaxials.
Amp: Jaycar 2 channel AA 0424
Im planning on getting a good install done with the 4 doors all sound deadened and will use quality cable.

I dont ever want a sub woofer. Im really just searching for a system that is louder and crisper then my stock one. What are your thoughts?.

Colin.

bass thru sub, no bass thru speaker make crisper sound,

run system as planned, loader yes, crisper no
rating = old skool 80's system

I'm wondering why you are only looking at 1 2-channel amp? the 6001's are rated at 90WRMS and the 6502 are 60WRMS. The AA-0424 just wont provide enough power no matter how you wire it.

On the other hand, the AA-0426 provides 100WRMS into 4 channels. This would provide plenty of headroom for even the 6001's.

On the other hand, if you don't want big power and just want better quality than the stock system, the speakers you are looking are way too big!

Essentially I see it as a waste of money, you could save some money by getting cheaper but still good speakers that will give you great quality.

Ok, so the amp wont be able to run front and rear speakers? Would it be better to have the amp power front splits and the unit powering the rear?

Twilight I just dont really like the doof doof sound personally. In my eyes it would just be an added expense I would not appreciate so decided to save my money and not go with one.

With those speakers you'll get the best sound with either a 4-channel amp or 2 2-channel amps.

Also a subwoofer doesn't equal doof doof. A subwoofer is there to produce the bass fequencies your smaller speakers cannot. In a perfect world you shouldn't even notice the different speakers you have, including a subwoofer.

^ yep. if you get a subwoofer that suits your system then you should never notice it. small 8" or 10" subwoofers arent expensive at all

chicaboo has an under seat subwoofer. no where near as powerful as a proper one, but certainly adds to the sound clarity

you can also buy slim-line subs that take up very little room.

A good example may be the newish Pioneer slimline sub. Small enough to be mounted under a seat without hassles, and apparently they do a reasonable job.

There's could well be better options out there, but I've never been interested in them.

if you dont want to take up space in the boot you can install a sub into the side wall.

like what this guy did :

but without all the extra trimmings

There are endless options, the mid range speakers from most good brands usually sit around the 40-50WRMS mark and in reality that is all you should need.

The Jaycar AA-0422 delivers 50WRMS in 4-channels and would give you enough power to be sweet and clear.

Front speakers you have 2 options: 5"x7" splits (easy to install, but harder to find) or 6"/6-1/2" splits (harder to install, many more options available)

Rear speakers: 6" 2-way's is all you need.

With this sort of setup I really would suggest getting a 10" or 12" subwoofer. Check this out: http://www.pioneer.com.au/car_entertainment/subwoofers/tssw124d/index.html]Pioneer TSSW124D[/URL], The cool thing is that it only requires a 22-23 lt enclosure which means you could fit it just about anywhere. If you wanted to it wouldn't be too hard to make up a box and wiring system that you could quickly remove.

Personally I like Alpine's midrange (pricing) speakers for what they cost and what you get, but I'm not going to go into that too much as I'm sure this thread will get out of hand.

The penny has just dropped. I wouldnt be able to mount a slimline sub under my seats as under one I will have the amp and the other will be home to my PS2.

What I may do is get front and rear speakers and a 4 channel amp now ans eventually hook up a removable sub in the hatch.
