Simondo's BA Lantis Type-R
Hi guys.
More so out of boredom than anything else I've decided to make a wee thread to share some before and after pics of my much loved Mazda Lantis Type-R Jap import. It's found itself all the way in Scotland in my possession. I've been modding it since I got it in january. I saw "modding" but all I've really been doing is restoring it to it's original JDM glory. I've got the MS A-Spec front lip on. Soon to come (hopefully) are wind deflectors and JDM orange side lights. Also purchased an LSD diff and a set of MS-01s so the car's going to look even better soon! How it looked when I bought it in January: How it looks today: Thanks for looking!

Looks great
What are the differences between a Type-R and a regular 1.8 BA Astina/Lantis? |

It's quicker to say the only thing that's the same! The Shell. The 1.8 (or BP) is a 4 pot engine and the Type-R is of course a KF-ZE V6 2.0 engine. The wheels on the 1.8 are 4 stud whereas they're 5 stud on the Type-R. The V6 has rear disc brakes. Although I believe South African BA's had rear discs even though they were only ever sold in 1.8 in SA. The Type-R has climate control, a stiffer suspension, LSD (option at one point, standard at another) Wind deflectors. I could go on for a while to be honest! I've had a couple of UK spec 1.5s but the Type-R is a whole different ball game!

It's the MAZDASPEED A-Spec Touring Kit replica lip. I'd love an original with side skirts some day!

What are the chances of some lovely 3L (silver) MAZDASPEED A-spec skirts coming up for the BA hatch?

Thought I'd update this thread and add a couple of new pics:
This is how the car is looking currently. (Without all the snow ) I've taken the front fogs off to modify them with HIDs and taken the lip off to prime, paint and lacquer it. It will go back on when the car is no longer doubling as a snow plough.

perfect! lookin sharp and clean! I like it a lot!! Are those eyelids the stock ones for a TypeR? You said you were mostly restoring it, so was just wondering... They look great, regardless.
