Optimax, Premium and Regular

Can you mix regular unleaded with Optimax or Premium?

I was on a trip out into the country and was running low on fuel. I only put Optimax in my car (only about $4-5 difference).. As the local Shell station was about 30 years old, they only had Unleaded so I tanked up with that.

The other option was to drive 10km to Mobil to get Premium Unleaded.

Is it bad to mix all the fuels?

Can optimax, premium and regular be mixed together?

I only get 450km from a full tank (40L) of Optimax from my 1.8L BA Hatch 97.

I've never heard of why you can't. they are all still unleaded fuel, just different qualities.

As I am told
not really a problem more just making your ECU work a bit harder to adjust constantly, you might not get the full mileage out of your premium petty but that is the only drawback I hear. If you use same petty consistantly you will get better performance and mileage out of it, I am trying that now, going 95 RON at Caltex as 4c off and 5% as a tafe student.

However going to old dodgy servos is not recommended as petty does go off and slimy or something, but yeah newer place with high turn over is the one you want. Ever picked up a load of petty and you car just went gutless on you, happened to me badly once driving for 30 mins odd all fine, fill up as it Tuesday arvo anyway within 2 kms car is pinging no power and yeah was crap till that load got diluted out.

IMHO

i usually fill up - depending on the price and how the car is running - 75% unleaded and 25% higher octane (whateva is available). i do it now and again when the car is feeling sluggish to give the injectors a little clean. i can feel the difference in how the car runs. it's much more smoother and repsonds quicker too. with that ratio i use, i couldn't see the ECU having to do much more work than normal. i filled up on the mobile premium (can't think of the name) and unleaded 2 weeks ago and felt the car made a big difference. then filled up w/ unleaded and vortex on the wkend, and the car's performance hasn't changed much at all. so who knows. but it definitely doesn't do any harm.

and vaughan, u get 5% off as a TAFE student?! no fair! do u think i could get the same as a teacher on a measly wage? lol hahaha

they say you should run 3 or 4 tanks of normal unleaded...then 1 tank of high octane to keep the system cleaner
