BPT ignition

Hey Guys,

Picked up my BPT clip today!! got loads of bits and bobs with it including a gear knob? im glad I got that!

I was speaking with my mechanic and he asked me if my current ignition on my 97 BA was compatible with the ECU in the GTX? He mentioned the fact that there is a key inside the ECU? When you turn the ignition it sends a signal to the ECU to fire up the car, will my ignition work with the GTX ECU? Please say it will!!

Cheers

Ben,

some pics

well, it should.

just don't ask me how.

I'm using the standard BA dizzy (usually with aftermarket ECU) but it does work with the GTX ECU as well (whever i have to clear a defect notice!)

so, it can be done

off topic... why the BA dizzy ? Any particular reason or just a convenient replacement ?

no idea on the ignition. I would presume so - they do use the same technique of firing sparks.

Its worth upgrading the coil at least. I've just bought a 'MSD Blaster 2' coil which is supposed to be good.
And get rid of the old spark leads.

The difference between the BG and BA is that the BA dizzy has an internal coil. I'd stick with the BG external coil dizzy.

Is it a case of wiring the BPT loom into the BP ignition? In the dash?

ive got the wiring schematics for both. I'll check them tonight.
if not, you should be able to splice the BPT loom into the BA ignitor without trouble.

I believe the dwell etc is ecu controlled so it should be no trouble.
You could even replace it with an aftermarket system like Crane or MSD quite easily.

Why bother. If you got the complete wiring harness it will include the coil and
ignitor for the GTX and you got the plugs for the GTX ECU. Forget about the
BA dash think only engine management between the ECU in the lower console
to the motor.

p.s the shifter from the GTX is useless to you the BA runs on a rod the GTX cables.
