Just replaced some speaker wire :S
it might have taken me 5 hours to do
but ive done it i duno what happend but the other week i lost sound to my front passenger door n i thoguht nmmmm maybe its cutting out on the metal of the door after taking the thing apart it was looking like the speaker wiring wasnt working properly so there goes the dash so i can wire straight from the head unit to the speaker done that n the speaker works fine oh i tested it with another speaker in the door before i pulled everything apart WHAT A BITCH getting speaker wire to the front doors UHGG n then getting the speaker wire from the head unit across the back of the glovebox to the door n then finding that the car has special plugs which connect into the body of the car into the rubber bit n then into the door :S i ended up drilling into this white plug n then sliding the speaker wire down into the rubber thing n then into thte door so ya cant notice its even there anwyays as i was about to put everything back together i thoguht hmm might be a good time to run new speaker wire into the back speakers so i dont have to removie the dash anways puttin the wire into the back was fairly easy took only 30 min anwyays to anyone owning a 91 astina and is using the standard speaker wire my advice is to run new wire especially to the rear speakers the front wasnt as noticable when listening to but the 7x10 speakers had a massive difference ya can turn the volume up a lot more than before its not distorting no where near as bad which is good because now ya can turn up more bass n it sounds great! so yeah advice is rear speakers easy!! front SUX hehe |

just make sure you credit the author in it
in a BG i would have thought the wiring would be pretty average by this age... hell i highly recommend doing a total rewire in the BJ, the wires are so pissy, if you ever cut into them, you'll regret it very shortly!!!

Nothing I'd like to point the finger to. You are better off making sure you run the wire in decent locations (not along side power cables) and if you can solder the wire to the speaker terminals. Crimp terminal's unless done very well can be the no. 1 reason for crap sound when other things like power is ok.
Unless you are truely pumping 100's of RMS watts you do not need monster speaker cable. The only time you'll find it making much difference is when you have a cable run that is 20+ metres long! I cannot remember the gauges of the top of my head but cable that is 4mm thick is overkill. Plus it's harder to run inside the car.

2 options to the cuts get some mechanix gloves (i love em!!)
or you can just live with perma cut hands (like i used to) - now my hands are just cut from when i do emergency work - like taping exhausts up and forgetting that my heat tolerance is only so high!!!
