Turbo

i was just reading over the threads about the bpt conversion and am just wondering. wouldn it b easier to get the bpt and use its crank + rods + pistons n other stuff n put them in the bp engine while its still in the car? or mayb even get some aftermarket parts if they even exist. or is our poor little bp block just too weak to handle the stresses?

I think to replace cranks/rods etc you need to remove the engine?

no pistons will not come out the block from the bottom
you have to remove the head to get pistons in or out

and your better off just turboing your N/A if you thinking of using stock BPT parts, waste of money trying to build a stock BPT

spend up an get aftermarket bits

odd, i pulled mine almost right out when i changed the bottom end bearings, there was nothing stopping them coming out except my hand holding the rod up?

you dont need to pull the engine to change the crank.

Ps. anyone know what a BP motor weights? working out how hard it'll be to pull the engine this hols and re-condition it

i've heard as long as you're careful you can do it from the bottom. i know my uncle did it with his old hold and dad's done it with a few cars. he also said if you're careful you can use original spec rings and not have to hone the cylinders to remove the lip.

i've only ever done it from the top. i was changing the big end bearings (after i chewed them up , apparently my car does not have a rev-limiter, unless its like 9000rpm lol) and i was tempted to pull a piston out and check it all over. i don't see any reason you couldn't do it from the bottom on the astinas

i just used the search tool and got my old thread:-

http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showt...ight=bpt+block

all the info you require is in that thread... it should be a sticky.

i kept all the banjos and feed lines from my BPT, just in case i wanna convert my BP to turbo.

the block, rods and crank are the same on both BP and BPT.
the 94 onwards crank is lighter and stronger and allows for the bigger oil pump.
the 94 onwards block did not have screw attach points for the oil and water feed lines.

Well you didnt pull far enough..they DONT pull out the bottom, the bearing supports dont no allow the pistons to pull thru

and 70NYD
just turbo your BP dont worry about a BP to BPT strip down. your wasting your money...
you'll get MORE power from a BP..and since the BP uses the same conrods and cranks as the BPT...been done millions of times

if you have losta money..strip you BP and build a MEAN as custom BPT engine

If you go down the rebuild BP route I have a GTX intake manifold you can have for $50. Doesn't have the VICS stuff in it.

Mate Insurance isn't that different i don't think...
Just go with Just Cars... Anyways
I thought the compression between these 2 engines was different...
Don't you have to change the head gasket to change the compression or something along thoughs lines... That or the pistons... I just rememeber reading a post on fl.com about this and it was something like that anyways...
I would still be looking in to it ay...
Anyways

i think the BPT runs lower compression pistons, but you'd be looking at aftermarket pistons for a BP anyway (and rods too!)
