popped my new computers cherry
So i built a new desktop yesterday, nothing massive. just for documents and surfing really.
2.8 dual core celeron. 2 gig ram (because i prefer XP, HATE vista) 1gb geforce graphics 500gb HD big glowy iCute box 7.1 HD audio asus motherboard 20 inch samsung widescreen (16:9... which is a **** to get stuff for i realise) so yeah i popped its cherry by finally going online and opening it up to a world of STD's and internet babies. anyone else in here enjoy a nerdy side and build computers? oh heres a little screenshot of how virginal it actually is O_O and yes that is Winamp, its better than iTunes :P |

I like putas, and I currently have 3.
1. Gaming 2. Workstation/CAD 3. HTPC I pretty much just use the gaming puta for everything, and occasionally jump on the CAD machine for learning new software. I don't have a TV or place to use the HTPC at the moment though. Gav. |

nice, yeah i built this because i used my dell laptop for everything, and its really delapidated at the moment.
3 things i learnt about laptops; - they dont drink beer - beer makes them unhappy and malfunction - dell preloads 60 million pieces of usless ram-whoring software from the factory. |

well ive never liked anything apart from laptops until i built this, its just fun having something i can finally upgrade when it slows down. and something that has better sound than a tincan with a earphone in it. *blasting 80's from shoutcast atm - juuust the two of us* well its better than my playlist with the used in it ;S |

if i had to build an ideal computer it would be similar to;
- nice thermaltake case - quadcore - as much ram as possible since id probably have to run ****ty vista - twin 500g HD's - nice soundcard for 7.1 - not watercooled but multi-fanned - probably twin moniter setup since i used to be an ace in photoshop but havent had time to use it lately (i use it for my digi enhanced photography and digital car modification) heres examples of some of my much older work. |

^ Hell yeah!
I build and repair PC's in my spare time, and I'm a Network Administrator by day. I'm currently running three "rigs", they all run on the same monitor: 42" 1080i LG 1: Surfing / Gaming / Ruling the world OS: XP Cpu: AMD Phenom Black Quad-core Mobo: ASROCK AOD790GX Hdd: 4 x 500GB RAID 10 (1TB) Ram: 4GB Gpu: 2 x Asus Nvidia 9800GTX (512mb x 2) Case: Boring spare (its my ninja PC) 2: Media Centre OS: Custom build Ubuntu shell / XBMC Cpu: AMD Dual Core Mobo: Asus Hdd: 4 x 1TB RAID 10 (2TB) Ram: 2GB Gpu: Built in (256mb) Case: Black Minuet 350 3: Xbox 360 Elite Case: Black Knight Chameleon Mobo: Custom Airflow, bigger heat-sinks Dedicated Media Centre's are great and have about 40second boot time straight into XMBC. Don't need anything big hardware wise, but would recommend Dual Core, at least 256mb video and 2GB Ram. Cheers, Steve.

Im building one atm:
1. Thermaltake Armor+ VH6000BWS Black Steel Case with 23cm FAN on Side Panel 2. Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 X58+ICH10R QPI 6.4GT/s DDR3 2000 3. Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB (3x 2GB) PC-12800 (1600MHz) DDR3 Triple Kit 4. Intel Core i7 920 Processor LGA1366 2.66GHz 8MB Cache CPU 5. XFX GTX260+ 896M 216SP Extreme Ed 621Mhz CP PCI Express 6. Cooler Master V8 HeatPipe Universal Cooler (Maybe a bit of overkill!!) 7. CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 1000W Extreme SLI Ready(RS-A00-EMBA) The processor runs at 2.6 GHz per core I think but ill overclock it to 3.2GHz and it should be bloody quick... I wanna run Windows 7 but Im not sure whether it will be 64bit compatible atm?...pretty sure Vista is but who cares...Just run XP Pro for now... Also looking at getting a decent 20" monitor for games...this will be running alot of photoshop for the missus as well, hence the 1600MHz memory... Might look at running dual SLI in the near future as well, depends how much I want to spend on an ever depreciating device... Personally I'm not a fan of AMD, just didn't have the high end stuff that Intel offers but Intel are dearer...

stick with intel...graphics card a good one is the ATI Raedon HD4800 series...i dont like the i7 cause wont really be usable for home machines yet...the windows 7 64bit is compatible as far as i know...few guys on the forums for gaming im on have it set up...dont get a 20" screen...if your gonna buy one now buy a 22 or 23 inch...but make sure its 16:9 not 16:10
