SIlversp20's SP20 track/street car

hey guys

I am thinking of slowly converting my car more towards a track oriented car.
but still able to drive it home after a race (providing I don't smash it into a wall ).

History of car
bought in April 2007
have had a few problems over the years of driving it. Mainly driver pushing it too hard i think.
anyways here is the list

Engine
Mostly Stock for now
cat back 2.25" piping to about a 3" tip. sounds nice.
Autoexe headers (to be Purchased from Rupe)
AutoExe K&N carbonfibre ram air intake (Rupe Again)
Gearbox rebuilt with Mazdaspeed LSD new Exedy HD Clutch
Looking for 626 intake Manifold.

Interior
Clarion 6.5in touchsreen dvd player w/bluetooth.
Seat covers lol

Wheels and Brakes
Front and Rear Slotted rotors with Bendix ultimate Pads.
17" rims w/ 215/45 Bridgestone ER300 tyres very grippy. thinking of repainting the rims. just don't know what colour. was thinking a dark gunmetal grey darker than the car.
Maybe some 16s in future for track slicks.

Suspension
front adjusted to have more -camber.
Espilar Springs all round from Orion ( Cheers) nice even drop
Autoexe 22mm Swaybar (To be installed)
AutoExe 3pt Strut Brace (to be purchased from Rupe)
2 x sets of Camber bolts have arrived Yesterday 1/11/2011 from Whiteline. Only ordered them the day before.

Cosmetic
Electric Folding Mirrors to be installed
Retrofit HID lights. to be done.
Chrome Rear Garnish (on its way from JP)

So there is still a bit to do on it but I aim to have fun with it now that its not a daily driver

Any suggestions for making it trackworthy or anything else please feel free to comment.

Looks like your going to have fun with this project.
I have read that the 626 Manifold works best with the US cams, as you have the FS-ZE cams you might be better off with the ZE intake manifold.

that is true Phil but wouldn't the 626 manifold be easier to get a hold of.
Maybe I will not bother and just remove the VICs butterflies and be done with it

Have a look at the one of my dyno charts, it has my FS-ZE vs a FS-DE vs FS-DE with VICS removed.
The 626 manifold is designed to give more power in mid range and ZE is designed for higher RPM power, which matches the cams in your SP20.
I can get you a FS-ZE maifold shipped here easily.

installed the camber bolts last night.
F@ckn original bolts were done up sooooooo friggen tight I struggled to get the buggers off. but a fair bit of force did the job.
Didnt take much to put the new bolts in, maybe 10minutes each including tightening and putting wheel back on.
went for a drive and tyres no longer scrap on the guards only on extreme pot holes and bumps.
seems to handle the corners a bit stabler too.
this will be tested next week at Lakeside.

Regarding 626 FS plenum... get it...

From my experience and back to back dyno results on my car before and after.
The whole power curve and driveability is a plus.

I will be installing a 626 FS plenum to my other non turbo sp20 on my next holidays

Depending on how much track work you will be doing,

Street/Track
- I would doing a Koni shock conversion front and rear.
- Swaybars front and rear
- Hardrace lower replacement control arms with harden rubber bushing.
- Hardrace rear trailing arms with harden rubber bushing


More Track than street
If the car is going to be tracked alot and if NVH and comfort doesnt bother you when driven on the street, I would fit:
- Coilovers
- Swaybars front and rear
- Superpro polyurethane bushing on the front lower control arms
- Superpro polyurethane bushing on the rear trailing arms

thanks for the suggestions GTX
suspension has just been redone - new shocks and Espilir springs - so probably won't change that just yet unless i get serious about track work.
I have a thicker rear sway bar to fit non adjustable at the moment.

I wont have a lot of mullah to spend on upgrades so the small things will have to do for now.
I am thinking that weight reduction would be the most benefit, without going overboard.

Finally installed the Rear sway bar and it has made a big difference in the feel of how the car handles.
It feels so much tighter now.
Will be having fun soon

Thinking of sanding rims back to Metal, as they are only Painted Chrome and have paint missing everywhere.
Just have to choose a complemetary colour for the Car.
Was thinking a Darker grey or black but not sure. Guess I can try it on the Spare first and Test fit on car when happy with a colour.

I have (poorly painted) black alloys with blue nuts if you wanna see how that looks on a white BG?
Could always get a Photoshopper on here to make it grey to see if you like the combo?

My license ran out for CS3 and I can't do it for you bro, sorry

what where the mazdaspeed protege rims colour? weren't they a grey or something and the Jap ones where goldy colour which i dont really like.

is there any photo shoppers on here that can help me out with a selection of colours?
Ill Take a better photo of the rims and upload them later

CS3! Damn, you do realise that adobe is up to CS5.5 right? And that you can get a copy of the software from certain, lets say, sources?
