Gran Turismo 4 - First shot!!

well this is a bit unfortunate... i preordered my copy of GT4 back in January sometime at Harvey Norman.. and i picked it up about an hour ago.. GT mode HAS to have a memory card in the slot... no ifs.. no buts

crap

anywho i did get to play in arcade mode... let me jsut say WOW!!! beautifully detailed - took the Mazda Familia Sport 20 sedan out for a quick lash over a couple of courses... it rolls, it dips.. my god its quite realistic

did i mention its detailed? i was amazed when i noticed the detail in the car and scenary.. from the highly worked textures (some look photoish) down to the detail with the rear badging, break up in the headlights, down to the inclusion of door locks (yeah big deal - but its v. accurate!!)

game play is quite good, as i said the cars seem to react to movements like they should.. jam on the brakes the car dips, corner hard, the car tips in

rally tracks have improved, cars respond better in the loose stuff, BUT cars still can't get off the road (damn invisible walls) and they bog down quite a lot if you cut the corners... this can be made up by trying to hit the spectators as they run off the track - they are now 3d, not the standard GT cardboard cutouts

there is a special button.. i dunno what is special about it yet.. that would require reading.. NOS? hahaha yeah right

all in all i would recommend highly - i only have 260 cars available to me at this point in time - i'll run at the mazdas i have in arcade mode so far

oh yeah there is also a feature where you can be the team manager.. telling th cars how hard to push etc.. probably more useful on endurance races, where tyre wear is more critical - as well as fuel conservation

fuel is now a factor in the races.... there is also (now this is wank) a special photo shooting mode... you can take your purchased car place it on a surrounding of your choice - change the wheel angle, car angle, phot position etc.... now get this...... wait for it....... you can then plug in your USB printer and print the images, or you can transfer the images to a thumb drive to view on your PC

and on my earlier comment about the special button ... umm its boost... i'm goign to hope its like turning the boost controllor up temporarily - and not naaaaaawz

bugger this is quite featured .... if anyone needs me i'll be on my arse in front of the tele for a wittle while

JB have this for $79 too. thats the best price ive seen so far. oh and for an extra $40 you can get a steeringwheel. dunno of the quality of it tho

GT4 can be played online! however you will need to have your PC and PS2 networked together i will have mine up and runnign next week!
